For chromium supplements, does it matter if it's chromium picolinate, chromium chloride, or just chromium? I'm most familiar with chromium picolinate, and know it's helped with curbing cravings (not every day, just now and then).

I can't find the picolinate type in any of my local stores, so I wanted to ask if anyone knows if the chromium form matters, for it to be effective?

    Re: Chromium

In Dr. Atkins Vita Nutrient Solution, he writes:

"As for which form of chromium is best, there seem to be 2 good choices. I prescribe both the PICOLINATE and the POLYNICOTINATE forms; the differences between them are rarely noticeable. Both are beneficial and thoroughly safe, although I feel that the PICOLINATE has a stronger effect.

These forms also seem to be more effective then other forms if the mineral. To recruit chromium's help against obesity and other problems related to insulin resistance, I usually suggest taking 200-600 mcg every day. For full-blown diabetes or extreme obsity, I normally raise the amount to between 600-1000 mcg daily."

If you're already taking a multi-vitamin, there could be enough in there already.

Why are you wanting to take this supplement?

      Re: Chromium

Thanks for the info Atkinsgal. My multivitamin has 100 mcg of chromium chloride. That's why I was asking about the forms, I wasn't sure if that type & amount was sufficient.
