  • Am I really Turning 50!!!

Yes, I will turn 50, in April. Been on the induction for 4 weeks, and never thought of checking out the 50+ forum. I guess in my mind I am still 40!!!

Anyway, what can I expect at my age. Does the weight loss slow down more than it does for "younger' people?

My first 3 weeks were great, but week for slowed down. I know the first few weeks were the easy loss weeks, so what do I have to look forward to???

Hellooooooooo!!! Welcome to the 50+ forum. I know you are just visiting until April but that's okay. lol lol

Well ----- it all depends on who you talk to when it comes to us "older" folks losing slower. Yes, to be perfectly honest, the "older" body does tend to slow down. That's mainly because our metabolism slows down first. lol You have to remember that slower is okay. You will still lose especially if you are exercising and following the "rules".

Being older sometimes means being on more meds. Certain meds tend to slow weight loss in older people. The worst one is hormones but even blood pressure and cholesterol meds can make it a little harder to lose.

You need to be sure you are taking the extra calcium and you may even want to try L Carnitine or Atkins Accel to see if that will help you continue to lose IF, indeed, you start to slow down.

After all is said and done, it boils down to the same fact that everyone's body is different and you may not slow down at all. Several people who post here are in their 60's and they are still continuing to lose. So -- please don't worry about it until a problem arises. Think positive and keep heading down the road to success.

50+ Forum ROCKS!!!!!!!!! And everyone in the 50+ Forum ROCKS!!!

      Turning 50!

      Hi Mary

I am 51 (will be 52 on August 6th). It wasn't as bad as I thought it might be turning 50. Actually, it's been great! My grand-daughter turns 3 on April 18th.

I've been starting "the change of life", so think that may be why I haven't had the weight drop off fast--all those hormones!! Think I probably need to exercise more--don't know for sure--guess time will tell.

It was hard for me to imagine that I was 50 and not in my 40's. It sure seemed strange. My family threw a surprise 50th birthday party for me.
(I've never had a surprise party before). It was so much fun--the worse was when the Grim Reaper came to visit. My grandson who was 3 freaked out. We tried to explain that it was just a guy dressed up like at Halloween. He called me every day for 3 days after to see if the Grim Reaper had come back. I told him "Lord I sure hope not"!

Plan a bash for your birthday--surround yourself with lots of family & friends and make it your best birthday yet!

      God Bless--
      Atkins--not a diet but a WOL

CKay, that is soooo cute!! I hope the child isn't "scared" for life. lol lol We didn't have the "Grim Reaper" at mine but we did have a wheelchair for me to sit in. 50th birthdays are the funniest one. Depending on who is hosting it, they can get really "mean" sometimes too. lol For sure, you have to have a sense of humor.

Mary, just think what the alternative to turning 50 would be. ------ now, don't you feel better??? lol lol

i turned 49 last week so i am on the cusp. i am reading all the forums. just a note of encouragement...this really stuck in my mind. last week on oprah she was quoting maya angelo, who said- in your 50's you are everything you meant to be. think about that!!! it blew my mind. we have time and ability...and some of us have the money...to be and do everything we meant to be but didnt have time or talent to be. it really inspired me.

That inspires me too, luna. Thanks for sharing that. I'll be 54 next month and I think she just might be right. Things are definitely looking up for me these days. I definitely have the "time and ability" and the money isn't as important as it use to be. I guess we have everything we ever needed and the rest is just icing on the cake.

Can't stand Oprah but I can tell you from experience (I'm 52 1/2 today!) that the 50's are MY favorite time in life. The kids are grown, I have no grandchildren yet to tug at my heartstrings, my career is "matured" and the mortgage got paid off last year. I have a wonderful husband of nearly 15 years (husband version 2.0) who has joined me in this WOE and we're both moving towards being foxy middle-agers. Welcome to the 50's in April!
