  • So discouraged! Getting emotional!!!

    Hi everyone,

I've been at this for 4 weeks now and only down 5 lbs. I have done a clean induction. My ratios are sometimes a little off, but usually with more fat. I have not been able to figure out what in the world I need to do to get my body started.

I have read suggestions to others everyday and have tried most of them. I know that we are all different, but I get so sad and frustrated to see how much some of you are losing and just cannot figure out what is causing me to hold on to it. My starting weight was 349, so it's not like a slower weight loss for someone who only has a little to lose. I am not thinking about quitting, but I just wonder if there is something wrong with my body's ability to adjust to this WOE. If that is the case, I wonder if I should be on another eating plan. I really like this WOE and it seems to be good for me all the way around except for the losing.

I have lost some inches, but not a great deal.

Any suggestions other than the usual. I am wondering about yeast. I have a Diflucan and wonder if I should take it and see if that is what is holding me back. I have autoimmune diseases, so I do struggle with yeast often. I also wonder if the autoimmunity itself might be a problem. My body seems to interpret many things in the wrong way.

I'm so glad this forum is here, it has given me encouragement and I thank you all for that. I'm just having a low day!

This is one BIG reason to hang on. It's wonderful that you are feeling better.

It's very possible that a yeast problem could be one of the culprits. I want to give you some information that another member (Becky Sue) recently gave me. She sent me this link so check it out. It tells of a simple test you can do to see if you have a yeast problem in your body.

I know the test can be a little "icky" but she found that she definitely has the problem. Now she is working on getting the correct supplements to take so she can rid her body of the yeast. If you want to, please feel free to PM her and ask her about the details of her research. I'm sure she would be happy to talk to you. Her member name is simply "Becky Sue".

I do not know enough about autoimmune disease to even comment on it. I am going to try and see if any of the other mods have any knowledge of this and can give you some advice. Just so we'll know, do you take any other meds -- blood pressure, cholesterol, HRT's, SSRI's??

You hang on ------- please don't give up. If you are feeling better physically then this WOE is a good thing for you to be doing. I know how depressed you must be but have heart and hang on a little longer. I'm going to get back to you and hopefully will be able to find someone familiar with the autoimmune disease you are struggling with.

      discouraged but feeling better

      Janice,
Thanks so much for your kind, supportive words. It really helped.

I had forgotten about the yeast saliva test. I had known about it in the past. Will try it. I am also doing more research on autoimminity and how it can impact my whole system. Also have gone back to re-read what Atkins had to say on many, many things. So, I'm not giving up hope. Thank goodnes this WOE is self perpetuating even when and if weight is not coming off. It does so many other positive things for the entire body and the lack of craving keeps you from the awful carb roller coaster ride!

I do remember reading a post from someone about needing to take a little higher dose of antidepressant since going on Atkins and I was somewhat confused since most people seem to feel so much better emotionally. I think the reason it caught my attention, is because I have had some spells of emotion that felt like PMS and I am 56 and way past that. I have been curious since it has happened since I changed my eating and have wondered if it had anything to do with this.

Sorry I rambled when you had asked me about meds. I only take a small amount of thyroid replacement daily.

Thanks again for your help. It's so nice to have a place to "talk" and ask questions.

MT, I am one who has been off and on Prozac for probably 20 years or more. I know the post you are referring to and I wondered too. I have felt so much better that I'm actually commiting to working a part time job next school year. lol I'm glad to be off those type meds and I honestly hope I don't have to go back on them. Everyone is different, however, so if you need them, please do what your doctor recommends.

I'm "way past that" too so I don't know what might have triggered your emotional episodes. Just try to roll with the punches and ride them out. Us women may just have these spells for no apparent reason or no reason anyone can put their finger on. Just accept it for what it was and try not to dwell on it. If these spells happen more frequently, then you should definitely go see your doctor.

Let us know what you find out about the saliva test.

You hang on and know that we're with you and will be here to support you and encourage you whenever you need us. OK?? :yes

          Hi myturnnow,
I can speak for experience that if you have an overgrowth of yeast, candidasis, you won't loose weight. I did loose weight at first, but the last , gosh, 5 months I have stayed the very same. I hadn't counted up just how long it has been til now. Now I am really sad, but not sad enough to give up. :nono I love the control I have over my eating while eating the atkins way.
Years ago, Dr.'s have prescribed antibiotics for me for kidney infections. After years of over prescribed antibiotics, I was in a heck of a shape. A specialist told me and my folks, for me to not take antibiotics unless absolutely necessary.
this yeast thing kinda snuck up on me, here lately. I was going to the dentist lately. I have a heart murmur, so he would have me take 4 - 500mg antibiotics to have dental work done. In the last 6 weeks, I had to do this 4 times. I think this didn't fit the warning of taking antibiotics if absolutely necessary....... This action kicked me over the edge with candidasis.
I think I was having the problem for the last 4-5 months, but I have a bad habit of not listening to my body. Well..... about a week ago I was feeling so bad, depressed, vaginitis,so tired. Down deep I had a sneaking supicion that YEAST was my problem. Then I was eating lots of the Atkins OK food, but not OK if YEAST is your problem. Like cheese, nuts, peanutbutter, mayonaise.
tomorrow I am going to town and going to buy me a book on Candidasis at Haistings book store. I am still researching what the best line of attack for me is. I will fill you in on what I decide to do.
I did buy some pills at walmart this week, garlic pills, essential oils, ascidophlis pills, to try to get some relief. I think they are helping.
I wish you much success. Hang in there it can happen. Have you read the information in the Dr. Atkins diet revolution(2002 edition) about yeast. If not read it. It explains alot.
          Happy Low Carbing!

            Thanks Becky Sue!!!

I was hoping you wouldn't mind me talking about your situation. You sound very "up-beat" about getting to the bottom of this problem. I'm just happy you are determined to hang in there and do what it takes to get well.

MT and Becky Sue --- I'm thinking about both of you. Please keep us posted on what you find out.

:hug :hug :hug ----- group hug!!!!

                  So discouraged! Getting emotional!!!

Thank you to all of you for your kind support. I really needed it this morning as the scale even showed a pound gain this morning. I just cannot seem to figure any of it out. But not ready to give up. I think I'll get it.

Could some of you, especially someone who has a lot to lose like me, please give me an idea of how many calories you take in per day. In the old Atkins book (I did the eating plan in the 1970's) gave no real restriction on calorie count and people still lost weight, me included. But in the new book it is discussed but not really specified to me. I am wondering if that is a factor for me. As I mentioned, my percentages eaten from FitDAy are a little higher on the fat side and that adds more calories. And I am A LOT older now!!!! and I am sure it is making a difference, but I do see that many of the over 50 group are losing at a nice pace.

It's great to have this forum and I really appreciate your helpful comments.

MT, I just have to give you this link to read. Forgive me if you have read it already. It explains a lot about why we go up and down a pound or so every few days when we haven't cheated at all.

                    Best of luck to you!!

                          Keep us informed, Becky Sue.

Hopefully your new book will be full of good information too.
