  • Body after weight loss

I have a question. I watched DR PHIL the other day. He had a lady on his show who has lost a lot of weight. She was ashamed of her body as it was all wrinkled due to the weight loss. She showed her stomach and I admit it did look really bad.

I'm thinking as long as I do exercise that this won't happen. ?? Anyone who has lost a lot already, can you give advice or say if this has been a problem for you?

I didn't have the huge weight loss of hundred or more pounds, but for my size, and height, I had a lot to lose. I started at 145 and I am at 104. I have some loose flab on my arms, that I am working on. Also working on the stomach muscles.
I hope by bumping this up someone who may have some better answers than I do, might answer.

      Thanks lgndpr!!

I agree, I think if I exercise my areas and try to keep active as I lose then it won't look so bad. When I reach my goal at 145, I'll have lost 135 pounds, so this is kinda at the back of my mind nagging at me. However, I know from the posts in here that lots of people have lost over 100 pounds and didn't mention excess skin on their bodies.

      Thanks for your quick response.

I look at it this way. I can buy support briefs to help smooth out the loose skin/bumps/unsightly spots. But one thing we can be thankful for is that we don't belong to a nudist colony :yikes :yikes ! Just teasing ya!!!

No kidding clothes cover up nicely. For some that can afford surgery, they can have some of the loose skin removed and lifted with tummy tucks.

At least our clothes will look nicer on us after we have shed all this excess poundage. Much better than we look at our heaviest.

and by all means exercise those troublesome spots!! That is what I am doing.

Best wishes to everyone on this shrinking journey with me!!! :hug

          Becy Sue,

YIKES, I guess if I did belong to a nudist colony I would definitely be more concerned with saggy skin.

I agree with you, exercise, lose the excess baggage and hope for the best. It has to be better than it is now. SMILE

Becky Sue, you are a "hoot", girl!!! I'm glad to hear from you and you sound like your hanging in there.

I can't add much to this thread other than to say that exercise is a BIG part of this WOE. Losing slowly and drinking LOTS of water helps our skin be able to keep up with the changes. At 54 years old, I have the "wings" underneath by arms that I hate. I also have a big stomach and I'd love to have a tummy tuck. My insurance just won't cooperate and neither will my bank account. lol lol

I will just agree that losing weight is much better than "not" losing weight and the clothing market makes some excellent support garments if they are needed. They even make some excellent "push up" garments too for when everything falls to our knees. lol lol

I'm also noticing alot of loose skin. What really depressed is the fact that the stretch marks look like an deflated balloon. My sis had the gastric bypass and her loose skin is much worse and she's 7yrs younger than me. Guess losing slowly has it's advantages.

Just hope I'm not left looking like a deflated elephant when I get done. Wonder if exercise will help put everything back in place????????

Hey ladies, I'm actually suprised that there are so few threads about
"Flob" (my term for loose skin) here in ADBB

Let me add my two cents. Problem for most of us in this forum is also our age. Use search & go look at a post recently by user 'mrivera' who is 18 & lost 100 lbs, his skin snapped right back into place.

I think the younger you are the easier this problem is to overcome. The fact that we're 50 plus cannot be changed

This issue is why I think slow but steady is a good way to lose. I lost around 40 lbs on the 1st six monthes of this WOL the flob problem was pretty bad, I've spent the last six monthes exercising & reshaping & have only lost an additional 3-4 lbs pretty much on purpose as I try to tighten up overall before losing more.

Exercise is the key & not just a specific area but trying to bring down the bodyfat percentage by overall exercise, slowly but surely its working. My biggest problem area is the bottom of my neck where I used to have multiple chins & now look like a turkey, but that too is slowly improving, but once again we are 50+ so we'll never get the elasticity of the Mrivera's of the world

I plant to restart trying to lose again in a few weeks, I'll let you know how that pans out.

By the way the tip on lots of hydration & water given by Janice above is a very useful once. Do it
I try to take one day at a time but sometimes several days attack me at once

                  Good Morning Folks~!!
This is my first post to a message board, so I hope i am doing this correctly. Maybe in time I'll get the hang of doing all the fancy stuff , like pictures and all the fun faces added to mail. For now I'll just introduce myself. I'm 51 -5'5 -168lbs- atkining my way to 131 lol.. Getting used to all this water is tough for me. I had to find a walking track with a potty close by lol.. I'm on 11 carbs a day and that seems to work consistently for me. I saw exercise bands advertised on an infomercial and was wondering if anyone had tried those instead of weights? My strating weight was 182 on feb 12 04. I have cheated 3 times <shame on me> carrot cake called my name once too often lol..
I really enjoyed reading the posts you all send each other, this seems like such a friendly and helpful group. Keep smiling~!!!

thanks so much for welcoming me, that was mighty sweet of you. I just got back from Walmart with my Accel. I saw where a few other people are using it so I thought i'd give it a try too..
Its 88 degrees and very humid here in NC so I better stay in and use my stepper as exercise this evening. :icondance Well off I go to clean up the house. I hope everyone is having a great day. Happy Atkinging~!! Hugs to Ya'll

                            excess skin

So far, 65 lbs. are gone and I haven't notice to much extra flabby skin. Of course given that I have had 4 children my stomach muscles aren't what they use to be! :no But, I have found that excerscise with the weights have really seemed to tone up quite a few problem areas so far. Will see what the end product turns out to be.

Wow, Liz, you are doing fantastic, girl!!!!!!!! Have you lost all of that since February?? Had you started before you joined the board??

I'm like you, my stomach is the worst part. I don't exercise as much as I need to and MUST start doing my crunches more often. I have a treadmill and some wrist weights that I wear. This has helped tone my arms.

You keep up the good work. You are doing so well!!!
