      Re: Should we count calories?

hey wannabe did you read in your DANDR that high fat and protein foods like those pepperonies would be self limiting in the amount a person would eat so all Dr Atkins needed to control was the carbs? If you listen to your hunger signals and don't absentmindedly eat pepperoni slicesing tv you will not eat a lot of them nor a lot of total cals for those meals. most overeating on Atkins happends cause we are sholeing food in on autopilot. Like reading posts working at our desks and sancking on something. Just as when we were high carb eating machines on autopilot we could eat a whole bag of something and not feel like whe had eatten anything.

Much of appetite comtrol is realizing you have eatten. So do all you can to learn you are having a meal. those that do the prep work and the cooking tend to eat less then those who just belly up to the table at meal time. so fix your meals pay attendtion to the bites as they enter your mouth play around in there and get swallowed and you will find you are eatting less and less and even when you do have a high cal low carb food you will not eat as much.

Didi you know high fat meals casue the small intestine at the neck of the stomache to send signals to the brain to close the opening and delay digestion longer? So you got the mass of food staying with you longer keeping you feeling full longer, you got the mouth fat pleasure zones in high gear, you got stable blood sugar and you got full tummy generating signals to brain to stop hunger signals along with ketosis appetite supression and you can see why Atkins weight loss is so pain free.

Well see, that doesn't always work for everyone. In my case, too many years of just eating and not paying much attention. Some days (and depending on what I ate) I can really tell if I'm full and other days I can't. So I go by calories and I keep track of them and when I reach my limit, I stop eating. Then I tell myself that I'm full 'cause I have no more calories left to eat.

          Re: Should we count calories?

Is counting calories while on Atkins more important for the over 50s?
          More important than what?

I think counting calories is ALWAYS important. Whether we want to admit it or not, it truly does boil down to burning more than you take in. Granted, on Atkins, the foods we eat satisfy us to the point we aren't as hungry, but that equates to eating less calories over all. Its rare that I agree with nutritionists, but about calories, I do.

I heard Dr. Atkins say on a talk show once, that "I'm not saying that calories don't count, because they do. I'm just saying carbs count more."

I do exactly the same as you Wanna! Don't trust myself to stop at the right moment. It's rare that I feel really full, though at times it does happen.

              Re: Should we count calories?

full is not what we are doing on Atkins. there should be room in your stomach when you stop unless you were very very hungry. feed your hunger and stop learn what your hunger feels like and when it is satisfied as in you are no longer hungry and you will be a big Atkins loser

*Chuckles*... Gee thanks! Butl, you know... Sallyslimnow would so make me blush! I still have that 'fat' mentality. Isn't that weir? Can't seem to shake it. Maybe I have trouble believing, deep down, that I'll really stay slim...although I sure am determined to!!

Does anyone know if there's a way to change nics without losing your 'number of posts', 'reps' etc?

                        SALLYSLIMFOREVER sounds perfect to me.

It would make you accountable to yourself! As we ALL SHOULD BE ANYWAY!

Sal, there's no way you're ever gonna gain it back. You know that. As for the mental thing, give it time. Look in the mirror and tell yourself everyday, I AM SLIM AND GORGEOUS (cuz you are!)

Yes Sal, I am sure it can be done by one of the Admins.

Just pm Bren and ask her to fix it - it may take a while as with Kent away she has her hands full coping with all of us!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
