  • The older, the better.

I came across this on a British Cycling forum:

A young man meets up with a group of men in their 50s and 60s and is embarassed that any one of them can outcycle him.

    There's hope for us yet.
Atkins didn't say 'Calories don't count',
    he said, 'Don't count calories.'

Yeah, one of my neighbors has run countless marathons and continues to do so at age 80!! He's my role model. And he doesn't look a day over 60.

      Re: The older, the better.

This thread makes me think of what happened to my Dad just a few days before Christmas. I had a 98 year old Aunt who passed away (She smoked like a chimney for most of those years, by the way). Anyway, in the funeral home, my Dad struck up a conversation with another gentleman. The man started talking about various health problems that he had, and told my Dad that when he got to be his age, he'd understand what he was talking about. Dad looked at him, and said, "I'm sure I am your age -- if not older." The guy replied that, no, that couldn't be true because he was 72. When Dad told him the he was actually 82 the guy wouldn't believe him, until Dad took out his driver's license and showed him.

I sure hope I inherited some of those genes!

A similar thing happened to my Mum. She turned 80 this year, and just after she went to meet a friend she has made since she moved to Tasmania, to have a coffee. This lady is an old looking lady who walks with a stick and has an 'old' attitude. Anyway she said to Mum, how was your birthday, and the talk turned to how old she was, and when MUm said she was 80, the friend looked very sad and said she was only 72!

            Mum said she felt awful!
