    Re: My aching knees

they make you get up and exercise day one so you will not lose too much getting the replacements and you can still do your upper body workouts. they have a cool machine called an ergometer that looks like a bike pedals that you use your arms to work and you can dio a very heavy duty cardio workout with tjust that sitting down.

      Re: My aching knees

      Hey Becky,
I know I am not in the age group for this board, but I am so sorry you are going through this pain. My grandmother could barely move when she got her knees replaced. She had literally become chairbound simply because any movement was too excruciating.
Now, she is a different woman altogether. She is constantly on the move, and her children can't even keep up with her anymore. She always tells me what a blessing her replacements were. Seeing her astounding progress and her return to an active lifestyle leaves me fully in support of this as an option.
Due to past knee injuries and the fact that I have carried so much weight on my knees for so long, I do not doubt that one day I will need one or both of my knees replaced. I will not hesitate at all; my grandmother has been such a strong positive example for the benefits of the operation.
Whatever your decision, I will keep you in my prayers and hope to hear about you running around very soon!

        Re: My aching knees

Thanks Brabea22!! Wow, you gave me a positive post and a compliment!! Thank you.
I confess....I am of age for this board. But, at 51...I feel better than I did at 30 (except for the worn out knees). Atkins should be labeled as a 'fountain of youth' plan and then everyone would be busting their britches to be an Atkinseer!!!

Thanks, I'll keep everyone posted on what the orthopedic surgeon tells me when I go see him on the 13th.

The water arobics class after mine is for folks who have had hip replacements and knee surgerys and so many of them come on crutches. Just call the pool and ask if they offer the PACE class. You might even beable to get your insurance to pay for it.

              Re: My aching knees

I just got back from Physical Therapy and I LOVE it. They had me work out on different machines to stretch my knees. My therapist is halarious. I had the best time. He did the exercises with me. We laughed the whole time. He loves to tell jokes and talk about 'worlds dumbest criminals' and stuff he's heard that is funny. I had the best time, I can't wait to go back next Tuesday. My knees are aching right now, but I think that it did good and if I keep doing the exercises and taking the pain pills that it will start to feel better. He decided to wait till I see the orthopedic surgeon on the 13th before he makes any braces for me.

                  Re: My aching knees

It is great your experience at PT was such a positive one. I remember the first day that I attended PT after injuring my knee was a blast. The day after wasn't so good, though, as I was so stiff and sore that I couldn't move my leg! Here's hoping that you are too stiff tomorrow! :P
