Hi, again. A friend who is on another low-carb diet called me today and said she just went to the doctor and had a bad report on all her bloodwork. She said all the trig and cholesterol levels were way...high. She's going back to low fat. I don't go for a physical until 12/1 and, since I've only been on Atkins for nearly a month, I think it's too early to have mine checked. It worried me a little, though.

Just a quick note about my experience. My blood work did not start improving a lot until approximately 3 months into this WOE. By the six month mark it was very good. My triglycerides did continue to drop from the very beginning however, and after a couple of months, the HDL started to improve also. The LDL was never quite where my doctor wanted it but it did improve over what it was before starting this WOE. I think you really need to give it more time. I believe Dr. Atkins recommends at least 6 months to see the true results of what this WOE can do.
You did not say how long your friend had been doing a low carb diet. If she had only been doing this for a month or so and she had been through induction, which is strict, the levels may have been high initially. If she had stayed with the program I really believe they would have turned around and she would have seen a big difference. It takes time.
Best of luck to you! We'll be anxious to hear your results when you get them.

Something wrong with what your friend is reporting as by pretty much definition, tryglycerides will drop dramatically if you are truely eating low carb as they are an indication of your glycogen levels.
Tryglycerides always drop dramatically when goes to a true induction level of carb intake, HDL slowly rises, & LDL often rises intially then starts to drop belown intial levels over time (Just as Janice reported)I try to take one day at a time but sometimes several days attack me at once

yep she should be burning triglycerides for fuel if she is on a ketogenic low carb diet. We burn stored body fats and dietary fats which are triglycerides as our fuel so her blood levels should go down into the healthy levels as we are fracturing those TGs as fast as we can to get fuels.
Do you know what plan she is on and what her menu looked like? You should scope it out and offer her some corrections if she wants to keep low carbing for her health and weight loss.by the book atkinseer
