  • Where'd Everybody Go?

I'm looking for companionship from the 50+ crowd. It's been nearly a week since anybody posted anything here, and I need something new to read to encourage this "old woman."

I've been rereading DANDR and got to the place where Dr. A says that it gets harder to lose weight as we get older. I'm not sure that's terribly encouraging for me. After all, I get older every day. Does that mean that it will get harder each day?

    Any thoughts?
    June Goals
    1. Continue with water
    2. Use bike more (3x per week would be nice).
    3. Continue with videos.
    4. Go to the YMCA for water classes.
    5. Build stamina for more walking.

    Goals for May:
    1. Water every day - at least 100 oz.
    2. Walk through Wal Mart instead of ride.
    3. Post every day.
    4. Get the exercise bike out of basement and use it!
    5. Re-read DANDR! It's been too long.

LOL, I'm the old lady on the block, and I take meds that hinder weight loss, and I am still here plugging away. Its tough, but the alternative is tougher, if you know what I mean.
Are you using your exercise bike.
I do water arobics with a bunch of seniors and pregnant ladies three times a week and have started a walking program 3 days a week. (Walked all over Lowes yesterday LOL)
Which leaves me one day to recover.
Lets see if we can get some life into this forum.

Yes it gets harder the older you get. I used to drop weight quickly and easily... now I lose really slowly. I have been on Atkins for 3 years..... but slow loss is better than no loss.... and much better than gaining!

You bet slow is better than gaining. I've been using the exercise bike every other day. In between I got some exercise videos that I've been doing. It really surprised me that I could do any of them, much less finish them. When they're over, I'm beat, but I feel good! Almost young again.....almost.

Yes, my loss is definitely slowing as I go towards menopause. I've always been as regular as clockwork but am 3 weeks overdue and STUCK. Mum went into menopause the same way - it was just goodbye, no more TOM between one month and the next. I know this unusual but I guess we are just weird! I don't ind being 53 but I do mind it slowing my weight loss.

I woke up this morning 2 pounds lighter! It's the first move in over a week. At last, renewed motivation. Maybe it will continue now.

Menopause? Never experienced that, and I'm nearly 57.

Weght loss slow now, but then I am near target.
Atkins didn't say 'Calories don't count',

                Re: Where'd Everybody Go?

I don't think its hard at all. I'm going on 51 and I've had no trouble maintaining my 40 pound weight loss for 4 years. I know what foods to eat and what foods I will never eat again. Its pretty simple. Exercise is absolutely essential (NO EXCUSES!) Once you hit 50, you don't have alot of time to turn things around physically, so GET MOVING and don't ever give up or give in!!!

I refuse to accept the aches and pains of aging. I AM IN DENIAL HERE.

But I hadn't noticed, even before loosing weight.

I don't think it's universal, as is the menopuase with women, but sperm quality is said to degrade with age, so father a child when older brings increased risks of miscarriage or deformity, they say.

YES! IT GETS HARDER AS YOU GET OLDER!! but, not impossible.

Woman tend to lose approx 1/2 pound of muscle mass a year starting at around age 30........ on an average. Then menopause hits us smack in the face and it is approx SIX time that !!!!! SO NOT FAIR!
But, you can change that! How?

                      EXERCISE!!!!!!! yep!

So, I believe our mission is to let em all know ........ IF WE CAN DO IT, ANYONE CAN!!!

Labarum, how interesting. I hadn't heard of andropause before. Nice to know some men have a hormonal change at this age too, at least all the tables aren't stacked against us!

That explains those hot flashes I keep having...especially right after I eat. Weird stuff.

Hi everyone Thought I'd come in & say hello to you!.I'm 57 & want to get my weight off, 30-40 lbs of it. I've done atkins at least 5 times now ..I can't seem to get beyond 5-7 day's ..I don't know why other than I do get bored with it.
I know it works as I've lost weight & felt really good on it..
I also didn't experiment with the foods..So I'm going to see if I can win the war of "Induction" this time...Hopefully with all your help (if you'll have me)
