  • Three weeks mixed results

Hi, I just finished my third week and today got lab test results that show a rise in my cholesterol from 206 to 233. The triglycerides however went from 160 to 94. I lost ten pounds total but all the weight loss came in the first two weeks. Should I be concerned about the cholesterol? I'm following the program obsessively. I only "cheated" on the amount of nuts I ate this week so will be eliminating them for a while. I know I need to exercise more so that probably accounts for the plateau. I have 40 more pounds to lose.

Judy, first on the cholestrol issue. DR. A. said we should get it checked before beginning, and then not have it checked for at least 6 months-to a year, as there will often be a rise in the numbers in the early days.

Next, you say you have been doing this for 3 weeks......Do you mean that you have been doing Atkins for only 3 weeks?
If it is only your third week, then you should not be eating nuts yet because you would not be to that rung on the OWL ladder. You add carbs back in at the rate of 5 gr. per week and in a specific order. Look at the OWL ladder in that forum and you will see that nuts are about the 3rd rung up on the ladder. The very first rung would be more veggies. Check out the OWL forum as Elleth, and Perry have lots of good info there on that phase. Also go back and read ch. 13 in DANDR book.

Best wishes on your continued journey with this WOE. Let me know if I can help.
