Steroids?

Has anyone had experience with taking steroid based anti-inflammatory medication for arthritis?

Currently I am on Mobicox and have had no adverse side effects. Unfortunately the right hip in particular, has degenerated to the point that:

1. I have had to give up running....I now walk for exercise.

2. 3 to 4 nights a week I find that I have to take codeine to manage the pain in the middle of the night

3. My Dr. wants me to go on steroids.

I have not hear anything positive about steroid use, but that is only because what I have heard has always been the "horror stories".

Any response would be greatly appreciated.

Also, if anyone knows of a good web-site which compares various steroid type anti-inflammatory meds by adverse side effects, that too would be greatly appreciated.

every body is different and how the meds effect you will not be the exact same as anybody else. There is concern about long term usage and bone deterioration but if you can't move and sit around doing nothing you will get bone loss too. I was on steriods for an allergic reaction and did gain pounds last summer while eating my Atkins properly and doing my exercise part of my Atkins too. My doc told me it was fluid weight and I could ride it out or he'd prescribe diuretics for it. I opted to wait it out.

It really is a matter of quality of life. You can always say I'll try this for 30 days and see how I feel about the effects after the 30 days.

Hope you find some relief for your pain soon I know painful leg joints are the pits.
