  • Low cal and low carb can they be combined successfully?

This will be my first day and I plan to use low cal and low carb.

In the past when I was using lowcal I would multiply my weight times 10 and lose about 1.5 pounds per week.

I weigh about 230 so my daily calorie alotment would be 2300 cals.
The diet I am going to stay with for a month looks like this.

    Breakfast
    3 eggwhite and one egg.
    3 ounces of ham

    Snack
    Ham, turkey, cheese rollups

Also, should I add some fiber???

    Lunch
    2 burger patties
    Salad

    Snack
    Ham, turkey, cheese roliups

    Dinner
    One pork steak
    Salad

The carbs come to about 20.

Does anyone see any glaring problems with this?
I know it looks pretty Spartan and regimented but that is what I need for a while..

I was trying to edit and the post about the fiber jumped to the middle.
What I wanted to know was should I add a fiber supplement for bulk.

It's hard to reply to something I'm not well-versed in but, if it'll help, I'll try. We're all low-carbers here and don't promote eating as restrictively as what your proposing.

If I were you, considering the calorie and carb restrictions, the first thing I'd do is get myself one whopping multivitamin/mineral supplement because you're sure going to short-changing yourself.

I can't really say any more than that except drink lots of water and get plenty of exercise. Good luck.

Hi Stack, I think your plan looks good. I eat about the same way most days. Drink plenty of water. That is important. I start my day with 32oz (it may take a little while to drink)and then I can have my breakfast. I have another 32oz before lunch and the same goes before dinner. It helps a lot with the hungries.

Although I am in the "50s Club" so to speak - I am 54, but I'm not sure about the Club part - I don't know anything about combining low cal and low carb. I use Fitday to determine the number of calories and Atkins for the calorie distribution between fats, carbs, and proteins to determine what my daily caloric expenditure is to be.

I don't want you to become discouraged with the "lack or response". At first I too felt like I was "the new kid on the block" and somehow did not belong. But that is an illusion that will pass. Yes, some of the folks here know each other for years! And some of us, like me, are new just like you. We have to be patient and hang in there.....after all, it does take time to "break into" any new group or setting. And the folks here are "volunteers", i.e. they do this out of the goodness of their hearts.....which are HUGE.

Sooooo, be cool, pe patient, and the folks here will open up their hearts to you too. They are truly good folks.

              Stank--

Don't know if you are still tracking this question, but I thought I would add my two cents. I think your 2300 calories will work just fine! Even with Atkins, calories DO count, so you are wise to keep track of them.

But I would say yes, yes, yes--you must add fiber. One of the best forms is flax seed, which you can grind up in a coffee grinder, add some hot water to make a cereal, sweeten and add cinnamon or vanilla or something, a little heavy cream on top... Super fiber and nice on a cold morning! And of course veggies will help with getting fiber, too.

Oh, and posts in these extra forums (besides the main ones on top) sometimes will go unanswered for longer than the main ones. Nobody on here ever purposefully ignores anyone else!
