Oh goodie, you can read and then teach me!

I took the tests that Purplecat referred to. As I suspected, I'm estrogen deficient. Taking HRT scares me so much, I would much prefer the natural route you will be reading about. Also, my symptoms are so mild I feel like I have no right to complain because so many others have a horrid time of it all.

If you still have no resolutions, you had a great idea to see an herbalogist, and not the oregano kind!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, I do find it interesting that you've been "menopausal" for a real long time, and now you're getting symptoms again (or still?).

        Re: hormonal issues.......

silly, from all that i have read, menapause. from start to finish can take quite a few years. even younger women can be perimenapausal for years before ever having one hot flash.

i don't think i was ever done with it. i do believe my symptoms were much different than my moms and my older sister and i think in part due to the hysterectomies that both had.

i'm not having hot flashes any more but these other symptoms could be partially due to other things we've talked about, eye exams, detectors and so on. and you know as well as floyd that i have been on overload with stress. that might be the biggest contributor to this whole resurgence of symptoms. and i'm older than i was 4 years ago.

off to the store. i read a bit about one herb i want to check into.

          Re: hormonal issues.......

i might do a couple of entries here but mostly this will be put in my journal. i will say that i've found a book NATURAL HORMONE BALANCEfor Women by Uzzi Reiss, MD/OBGYN

he doesn't mention atkins or low carb in general, yet, but just within the first few chapters he mentions eating "right" and it is much of what we do. i think i'll like this book very much.

one thing i have read and learned is this. many women have told me "eat soy, drink soy" and i've seen this on websites too. jack was searching some things and came across it too. my book is telling me and i'll just quote it
These plants (soybeans and wild yams) contain unique compounds that are processed chemically and made into the identical hormones you yourself produce. However, when you eat soy or yams, your body cannot utilize the compounds as hormones.

            Re: hormonal issues.......

Interesting about the soy... reminds me of an article I read somewhere (can't remember where, ) that came down heavily against soy and soy products, for some of those very same reasons. It was an article that was part of a whole series of "sat-fats-are-really-good-for-you" pieces.
Perhaps the benefits of soy products have been overestimated.

              Re: hormonal issues.......

I had a lovely gift the night of my 50th. horrendous night sweats. 50 and 1 day, I got hot flushes. happy birthday to me. lol 2 years later i am still going, but determined not to go on hrt.

This was one of the reasons, I stopped atkins before. I ate lots of honey and oats and soya and wholegrain bread. I am afriad to say I also put on lts of weight, Well I am back on atkins, flushes too. but apart from that I feel wonderful.

It is hard enough to know that the flushes ect, can last a long time without being very uncomfortable being over -weight as well.

                Re: hormonal issues.......

I'm frankly sick of my hormones, lol. Think I'm near the end of my peri-menopausal stage but the hormonal fluctuations are driving me nuts: hot flashes, night sweats, pms symptoms that last several weeks. I'm back on this WOE for life but the hormonal swings sure affect the numbers on my evil scale. Does anyone have any effective remedies for peri symptoms? I think I've tried them all but you never know....

i bought a book called NATURAL HORMONE BALANCE FOR WOMEN by Uzzi Reiss, MD/OBGYN.

i started it over a month ago but several other things had to get read first so i'll be starting it over. i like the way the book reads. what the author is trying to say to me seems "right".

my first line of defensive, since i also do not want to go on HRT, is to educate myself and find a good obgyn to go to.

                  i do recommend the book.

                    Re: hormonal issues.......

I wish I did, but I don't and I hate going to the dr. I had the night sweats just last night, and they had been going away....

I won't take HRT because my mother had breast cancer.

Jimmie when you finish reading that, please let us know if you've found it helpful.
