  • Old but New Again

    Hello Everyone,

I am a 59 yo male married with a wonderful wife and two great kids 21 and 15.

I had been on the Atkins program around 30 years and lost about 50Lbs.

I found it difficult to follow at that time and went off the program. I spent the following years trying various progams that proved unsuccessful

Five years ago, I was 6' 3" tall and 416 lbs., I underwent bariatric surgery, it is called Duodenal Switch (also known as Bilio-Pancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch also called DS.

I lost 200 lbs. in about two years and kept it off for about an additional year. In the past two years I have gained back about 60 lbs.

This was due to the fact that I probably stretched my stomach out by overeating the wrong foods, excessing on a lot of carbs and sugars.

Unlike gastric bypass surgery, this surgery cuts out two thirds of the large curvature of your stomach and reroutes and shortens your intestine so you do not absorb protein very efficiently , you must eat at least 100 grams of protein a day. It does not just leave a little pouch that you can only eat very small amounts like gastric bypass.

Eventually you can eat pretty much of a normal diet you do however get filled up pretty fast and if you over do it you get super uncomfortable to say the least. After overeating for months, your capacity does increase, my real problem was constantly grazing on the wrong foods all day at work.

I was wondering if anyone is in similar circumstances than I am in. I am at a critical point in my weight dilemma. Could anyone help me with some tips to maximize my first couple of weeks on the program, I would appreciate any information that you good folks could help me with.

One thing I will insert here is EXERCISE!!! Yup, it is mandatory according to Dr. Atkins and will make your journey a heck of alot easier!
    I wish you much success!
