  • Do you think that folks over 50+ have

issues with weight loss and how it affects us.
Do we lose slower? Do we have more problems?
Is this just a non issue to deal with the fact that I haven't lost a pound since before Christmas and need a good excuse.

    41 pounds down and counting

My gawd, yes, thats it. For sure our metabolism is slower, all of our body doesnt zip along like thsoe brats in their 20's hehe. us brats in our 50's have to work harder after the first while I think. from witnessing lots here over 50 Id say we lose good intially but after awhile we really slow down.

Yes, I agree, the metabolism slows with age .. for sure .. but that just means you have to EXERCISE to keep it elevated....if you attempt to lose weight in your later years without cardiovascular exercise, you will lose muscle mass and bone mass, neither of which you want to lose!!!

SO EXERCISE IS KEY AT ANY AGE, BUT PARTICULARLY FOR THOSE WHO ARE OLDER!

:wave Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.
The older we get the more things we lose. To bad the weight can't get lost the way I lose my car keys, LOL. Yes the old body has slowed down, not just a little but a lot!

I agree, we have to keep the old bod in motion along with eating correctly in order to keep things moving in the right direction. But sometimes I forget which direction I'm going. Luckily, I have 2 wonderful daughters who keep me on track.

I watch the carbs, drink lots of water, go to the bathroom a lot, drink lots of water, go to the bathroom, and work my butt off. I'm in my 3rd week and I'm averaging 2 pounds a week. Not bad for the old fat broad. Oh, yes, I forgot the force of gravity is against us too. Try bending over a mirror and look at yourself. Lay on your back and look in a morror and you'll see what I mean.

We have to hang in there, work harder and give each other a pat on the back for every pound we lose. Keep up the good work everyone.

you also have hormonal changes that effect metabolism and other chemicals in the body because those hormones alter proteins binding sites which in turn effect the amount of other chemicals caried in the blood stream.

But even if you don't lose another pound you are getting heart healthy, blood sugar healthy, and many many other internal systems healthier too just eating and doing your exercise as Dr Atkins tells us too.
