  • Hello Ladies!!!!!!!!!

Sashaying over to say hello to all of you! I'm 51 and have been in surgical menopause since I was 41. Hysterectomy and oophrectomy. I was on HRT for awhile and packed on 40+ pounds, a few years later trying stupidly to lose on the other so called healthy eating plans, I have come back to what works! I only hope it isn't too late.

So far so good, I hope I continue to lose fat and find my old self again!

    Re: Hello Ladies!!!!!!!!!

Hi Tooder. This WOE is the only one that works for me, too. I am less bloated, and can eat foods that I enjoy. Tried WW, lost weight, but all that measuring drove me nuts. Glad to see that someone is posting in the 50+ area. Good luck!

      Re: Hello Ladies!!!!!!!!!

Tooder, I too am in surgical menopause but never did HRT. I too gained weight after and decide to come back to what works. I have been here since July 1 and have lost about 35-37lbs. I have a goal to lose an additional 11 or so pounds. Will determine just how low I want to go when I get closer. I am sure you will be able to lose as well.

        Re: Hello Ladies!!!!!!!!!

Thank you Ann Louise and Velcrocat. I am feeling positive in that my ketostix are turning pink, not dark purple but pink and I can see a visiblle difference in my abdomen (one of the places fat likes to hang out lately). My clothes are getting a bit looser too. Not dramatically but enough to notice. Thank goodness! Now if I could just get rid of the jowels.

I stopped using the HRT patch about 8 months and 40 or so pounds later. I didn't feel good, I felt uncomfortable and bloated and had HEARTBURN and ACID STOMACH all the time! I couldn't eat anything without the antacids. One plus with this WOE is the heartburn and gassy bloating is gone.

I suppose I was wrong by saying "Ladies" in my post because there COULD be men here right?

So you 50+ fellas, please accept my apologies.

Hi back! I've been busy working and dealing with a "frozen" septic line. ewwwwww. That'll cure anyone from food for a bit! I've been good.
Not losing at a large rate but happy that I've stuck to the WOE.

great news!!! Glad to hear your still with the plan. Sorry to hear about your frozen septic line - been there, done that -- not fun!! Hope everything is better in that area also.

                Re: Hello Ladies!!!!!!!!!

Hey Carole (and you other girls!

Well this is the morning after...........REALLY. We just might need a new drainfield. The freeze was between the tank and the drainage area. Go figure...anyways. WOE is going good, survived the stress although I'm still under duress!

I have made up my mind that I will eat what I can eat on this WOE and that's it. I am beginning to look at all the "white stuff" as a curse instead of a comfort. I don't find much comfort in the mirror when I indulge in all that poison! If anything I will control what I can control in my life and that's what I put in my mouth for sure!

Quite frankly, I have all kinds of stuff around I shouldn't eat. My kids would divorce me if I shut them off. They aren't the ones that can't deal with carbs, it's me. With that said, I haven't touched a twinkie or devil dog (my 2 favorites). Honey Buns are also a past love of mine but no more. LOL! I can't TOTALLY blame my slower metabolism on this weight gain, although I used to be able to eat that stuff once upon a time. So I guess it's a little of both, my love of sweet and metabolism. Oh well! Those days are gone. I'm gonna be a new woman!

Hows everything going with all of you! I'd love to hear your victories too!

                  Re: Hello Ladies!!!!!!!!!

morning Tooder -- I agree with you....all those miserable sugary carbs were once my friends...but with 30 + years added on to my life they aren't as friendly now as they once were. Instead of giving your kids twinkees and the other crapola they love -- try adding granola bars or something a little more healthy!! Who knows, they might like it! There are lots of recipes online for homemade granola - that way you know exactly what is going into their little bodies!

I remember our septic problems were also in the middle of winter....and it took more powerful machinery to dig through the frozen clay (which was under 2 feet of snow) to fix the problem. In spring when everything thawed it was such a mess to get the yard back in shape. Of course the company that dug up the yard wasn't responsible because they put the ground back as best they could under the conditions.....it cost about $300.00 to have the ground straightened out, re-seeding the area and lots of water to get the grass seed to grow. Believe me - I understand what you're going through! Hope all is well.

You are still breathing (albeit much poorer after yesterday & the septic system) so it's not too late to be back!!! You'll do great this time.

                          Re: Hello Ladies!!!!!!!!!

Hi all. I'm glad to see this forum picking up again. It's nice to have a place away from the 'youngsters'.

Sorry to hear about your septic problems and I hope they are soon behind you. (No pun intended)! I know we will have to deal with the same thing again someday but not for a very long time, I hope.

I haven't been losing as fast as I would like to, but it's my own fault because I have gotten a little lax lately. The more you lose, the less you can eat and I've gotten to a point where I am having trouble cutting back anymore. I am maintaining my loss but not losing. I get up every morning vowing to cut back but at the end of the day, I've eaten more than I wanted to and it's beginning to upset me that I can't seem to control those last hundred or so calories. I only have 8 pounds to go to goal but can't seem to get there. I hope the rest of you are doing better than I am at the moment!

Hello 50+ Ladies. I'm checking in to say hello and hope all is well with you. It's been a very snowy day, I've shoveled the driveway 3x. Heavy, wet snow aka heart-attack snow. It's stunningly beautiful but if that snow plow comes through one more time...

Left-over chicken and lots of broccoli w/butter for dinner. Yum! I find this WOE easy to live with. Carbs are indeed my enemy. I can't just eat one piece of bread/scoop of rice/whatever -- I have to eat a vegetable bowl full. Then I bloat out like a whale, burp all night, crave yet more carbs, and the vicious cycle begins. Once I get through the first week Induction, the cravings diminish. My 21-year old son can eat anything and not gain weight, so I have non-Atkins food in the house for him. It's so difficult during the first week of Induction. But now I can look at those foods and say Nope, not good for me. I've been down this road before, I know I can't eat just one, and I know this is the WOE for me.

Have a good evening. Guess what just turned on my street?? Yup, the snow plow!
