    Come on in Bren :wave

Like the Century Club I am sure that anyone with an insight into or need to know about how the Atkins WOE affects the 50+ amongst us will be welcome here.

After all we will all (hopefully) get to a ripe old age and perhaps even need a 100+ forum in the fullness of time :yikes now we are taking the steps to become our healthy and slimmer selves.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

      Hi Bren and elizellen,
I am 54 and I am proud to be at this ripe ol age.

I know what it is like to lose weight after a complete hysterectomy. I just got off HRT in the last couple months, so I've been there and done that.

I have cut my BP meds in 1/4's and hope to get off the BP meds before to much longer. All accomplished by this WOE.

I know that some of us older Atkineers lose weight a bit slower than the young whipper snappers! But hey we are getting there. :joy

I do take thyroid meds and I figure I will have to do this from now on, but I can do that, no problem.

Being 50+ is a great stage to be in. Life is good and this WOL agrees with me.

I plan on eating this way the rest of my life, however long it may be.

              Hi :wave

I'll be 49 this July. Am I a kid? ensive

I like this forum because it gives me insight on what is coming up. I am experiencing a lot of "fun stuff" that happens in your 50s. I am menopausal and on Premarin. I tried to stop taking it for awhile but I was so miserable I had to start again.

If anyone is controlling their menopausal symptoms with other things besides hormones, I would definitely be interested in knowing what works for you. I don't know if Premarin is halting my weight loss, but I sure feel better when I take it.

I'm 55 now and was on Premarin for about 10 years and stopped last March, at my doctor's suggestion. When I started experiencing some mild hot flashes and night sweats, I started on Estroven and within a week they stopped. So that's what I take now.

I truly believe the Premarin was at least partially responsible for all the weight I had gained in my abdomen. I had never packed fat there before. When I gained, it was always spread evenly over my whole body so most people didn't even notice. Now, I'm having a hard time getting rid of it. My inches are shrinking in my waist but I'm still not happy with the flab.

That makes sense. I used to never carry weight in my tummy area and now I do. I didn't associate it with the Premarin but that does make sense.

Does anyone know if the over-the-counter menopause stuff works? The only thing that bothers me are the night sweats. Daytime stuff I'm too busy to notice.

:help :help :help I've thought about buying some but don't want to spend a lot of $$$ if it doesn't work.

I believe you can get the Estroven for about $8 or $9 for a months supply at Target or Walmart. I buy it in two month packages at Costco for around $14 if I remember right (there go those lost brain cells again).

But, you should notice the effect on night sweats within a week, so buying one box would definitely be worth it.

Also, I noticed absolutely no withdrawal effects from stopping the Premarin cold turkey after taking it for 10 years.

Thanks! Estroven is over the counter? I'll give it a try. It's also cheaper than my cost for Premarin after insurance! :nod

Yes, Estroven is over the counter. It is an all natural supplement not a prescription estrogen replacement. It's mainly Soy and Black Cohosh.

Take a look at http://www.estroven.com/indexbase.html for more information.

No problem. That's why this forum is so important to us "kids" over 50 or approaching that.

Let me know how it works for you. Like I said, my main problem was hot flashes and night sweats and this took care of it within a week or so.
