  • HRT question....

I asked this in the Women's Forum, but I am posting it here, too. My doctor recently stopped my HRT after 24 years. Since then, I have been having some hot flashes and night sweats. Not severe, mainly very irritating. What I wanted to know is if they will gradually diminish or if I am stuck with them from now on. I am 60 years old. Because of my low thyroid I am usually freezing. Now I go from freezing to burning up in the wink of an eye. It is driving my husband crazy. LOL

This happened to me too after I stopped HRT after 14 years. I started taking Estroven (over the counter natural product) and it has helped the hot flashes/night sweats.

No problem. My hot flashes were mild too, mostly just annoying. I noticed the Estroven kick in after a couple weeks of taking it. I can't pin point it better because I all of a sudden realized I hadn't notice any.

Let me know if it works for you.

          Kathy,

Karen pointed me in the right direction, too. I felt that Premarin was making me retain fat in my tummy area, plus slowing my weight loss. I was afraid to stop taking it because my night sweats were so bad. I started taking Estroven and taking 1/2 pill/day of Premarin. I am off Premarin now and am doing fine. Sometimes I feel a little "flushed" at night but nothing like the sweats. I love it! :icondance

I'm glad the Estroven worked for you. I figure the less drugs I'm taking the better. I used to panic if I didn't get my little purple pill every morning, but now on the rare occasions I forget to take my Estroven, Oh well, the world won't end.

I do find that overall I generally feel warmer than most people around me, but it is nothing like hot flashes and night sweats.

When I started Atkins, my hot flashes started back. Drives my hubby nuts, as I either steal the blankets from him or throw them all on him. Why should I be the only one to suffer. LOL

Thanks for all the good advice. I have low thyroid function so I was always cold when everyone around me was fine. I used to make my husband crazy with always wanting the AC turned lower and the ceiling fans turned off and complaining that everywhere we went I was cold. Now, since going off the Premarin, I am either freezing or broiling and go from one to the other in the wink of an eye. Now I am REALLY driving my husband crazy. LOL

Not sure, but check out their web site at www.estroven.com. You should be able to find out there.
