  • Substitution

I have been told that I have a very "addition prone" personality. Once I find something I like, it's really hard for me to give it up. I'm glad to say that I easily gave up my Dr. Pepper addiction a while ago (probably 4 months ago). The down side, I often drink diet soda as a substitute. I don't drink more than a glass or two a day, and sometimes I forego it entirely for a period of a few days to a week or two. I wanted to know if that's OK? Is there a limit on diet soda or other things like it?

A positive substitution I have made is: whenever I feel like I want to cheat, like get up and walk over to the pantry to get a little carb-filled snack, I steer myself to the refridgerator instead and whip out a nice little cheese stick, <1 carb per stick. And thus my munchies are satisfied and I can ignore my carb cravings.

    Re: Substitution

As long as you aren't substituting the diet soda for your REQUIRED WATER, you should be okay. I see that you want to lose 80 lbs, so that means that you need to drink 64 oz of water PLUS 8 oz for every 25 lbs you want to lose. 64 + 24 oz = 88 oz MINIMUM of water. Some others say 1/2 your body weight in water, so that would be about 100 oz of water a day.

As long as you are drinking that much pure water, you can have the diet soda.

One other thing you'll want to watch for is to make sure the sweet taste of the diet soda isn't triggering a craving. If it's not....go ahead and enjoy it.

      Re: Substitution

if you at this point are having carb cravings you need to exaime the foods you eat and the drinks you drink cause some thing is triggering a blood sugar craving response. Unless you are hungry you should not be feeding uour munchies. Atkins is about eating only when we are hungry unless 6 hours have pasted having the munchies isn't about hunger.
