    how much water weight do you lose before you lose fat? One time some one told me the first twenty pounds is water weight, but I don't think that's true.

    It varies greatly and depends on your particular body. And there's not a cut off where you lose water then lose fat, it's a gradual process.

    If you've been eating more carbs than your body can use at one time, approximately 2 days' worth of extra is stored in the form of glycogen. Above that, extra is stored as fat. Glycogen is bound with water, so the 'water weight' you lose is that glycogen store with its associated fluid.

    You'll also lose some muscle mass (amount really varies based on diet and exercise and pysiology) and you'll lose some fat. Our bodies are made up of more than just fat and muscle though, so some of the weight you lose (or gain) could be the contents of your intestines.

    For that reason, I suggest you go by the tape measure and not the scale. It'll give you a better picture of your health and appearance.

      lol the mass you are losing from your muscles is the stored glygogen and water stored with it think of it as the food and drink for those muscle cells in the event of an emergency. glycogen is stored in our organs and muslces and the water to sugar ratio is about 3to 1 so yes you will be losing water weight and dependidng on how big you are and how well supplied your body was you could lose a large amount of scale weight that way.

      BUT those pounds are gonefor good as long as you are propperly eating your Atkins! The doctor when he weghed you didn't say well I know you have X pounds of water stored in there too so i will subtract it and just write down you weigh X pounds less then the scale says. Nope he or she she writes down it all. So celebrate those gone pounds cause they were a part of you and are now gone!
