  • I'm so discouraged...

...I just checked the scale, after not looking for 2 weeks. I'm up 2 pounds. That means in the last month of Induction and Extended Induction, I have lost a net of zero pounds.

I feel so fat. I hate myself like this, I hate my almost triple chin and my gut and my thighs and my rear end. I'm so tired of struggling against the weight all the time, and knowing how I get judged by people who don't know me (and some who do), at job interviews. I'm so tired of not fitting into a chair, so having to perch on the end.

I'm still tired. I have more energy than before this WOE, but I still wake up tired.

I feel like the biggest loser --- not in the good way. I feel like everyone can lose weight except me. I feel like they were all right when I was a kid, I'm too weak, I'm too weak-will, I'm destined to be fat courtesy of my genes.

Hey there! {{{only}}} There are a couple things that might be going on with you, and I know others will have some other ideas as well.

    1) Have you seen your doctor about your thyroid or other possible issues? I know a man who lost 150 pounds on Atkins but his wife had thyroid problems and she just couldn't lose weight until that situation was dealt with.

    2) Could you post a menu or two? It could be that perhaps you had something which caused you some problems unknowingly.

so have you been working out? did you check your inches to se how much of your fat mass has left?
Our body mass is constantly morphing on Atkins as we lose fat mass gain lean muscle mass and the fluid mass is constantly shifting.
All the mean metal monster can tell you is how your total mass has changed.

If your inches haven't changed go see your doc after your read chapter 15 of your DANDR and see if any of those medical reason apply to you. I busted a 12 wek stall cause my thyroid was out of range.

      Happy low carbing to you.

I agree, stay away from the scale and check with your Dr.
I know how you feel. I have been on Atkins for a year and have lost 39lbs. I know to some that doesn't sound like a lot but I have lost 61 inches and gone from a tight 34 to a 26 and my diabeties is totally under control. I will admit I had a bad two weeks earlier this year but besides that it has been a clean incuction.

Thanks everyone, for your hugs and cheerleading --- I really needed it!

Here's a link to a sample menu of mine:

I'm going back to induction, and taking out the "special" foods (avocado, cream). Have already taken out cream, as decaf intake has totally stopped. REducing flax to 1-2 T, also. Stretching out my veggies over the day, too -- I make this breakfast casserole with shredded turnips subbing as hashbrowns, eggs, maybe a little cheese on top, bacon. It's good.

The last few days before yesterday, I was noticing that I had stopped measuring, and was eyeballing. Doubt that "made" me gain 2 lbs, but I'll nip that in the bud for now, just in case, too.

I'm scheduling my exercise so it will be upped. And I have a water bottle on my desk now, along with my stopwatch which beeps every 30 min reminding me to drink if I haven't already.

I'm encouraged. Not quit back to hopeful yet, but feeling a lot better than yesterday!

Lily, I'm sending you a PM, thanks.

COULD be TOM when I was heavier at my heaviest I would gain 8 pounds before TOM now I only gain 2-3 but I gain this about 3-10 days before TOM even comes then lose it about 2 days after it leaves so that could be what it is.

because you might be a slow loser, you might need to also count your calories. I know thats a bad sentence, but unfortunately its the way it is for some folks. You might want to keep track of how much your burning versus how much your eating,, just a suggestion, I know that for me and several others this is what we have found.....

Thanks so much for your encouraging posts, everyone! I am doing better, and I am back on my WOL today. I went on a mini-bender yesterday, fortunately got sane in the middle of it.

I did just finish my TOM, but it's not going down.

I think part of my problem was compound: I was eating too much and exercising too little. Somewhere I read to eat between 10 and 12 times my weight in calories, which was around 2900 minimum! Add to that, exericsing only 3x a week on average, and it's not good.

So I checked out the Katch McCardle (sp?) formula for basal metabolism, and am seeing on fitday if I can keep it around 2000 cal/day. CathyR, I think you're right, I may have to. I was really having to work to get those 2900 cal in, anyway!

Today has been a very good LC day, a good induction day. Each meal has gone into fitday, and about to put it in my journal. I exercised for 45 minutes (oy) -- according to fitday, if I do that 7 days in a row, I will lose 1 pound (3500 cal).

In a few weeks (when summer health insurance kicks in) I'm going to request to have my thyroid tested. I think I can go directly to the endocrinologist and don't have to mess around trying to find (and get on my side) an internist. I've been taking my temperature, so far I average 97.5!

Thank you for all the advice and cheering and hugs. I've really appreciated it. For 15 years, I have been conscious of my weight and trying to reduce it. The only two times I've been successful, I was basically starving (once in high school, ate only 1 meal a day -- dinner; and once back in 2000, from Jan to May I was on The Zone, and eating about 1000 cal per day --- lost 50 pounds then, but always hungry and tired and WIRED --- drank soy lattes almost all day long!) Last fall, I lost 20 pounds, too, which I've now gained back. But last fall I ate a tiny breakfast, never ate lunch, and a big dinner, so I think cals were low.

I hate being such a failure at this. I hate seeing pictures of myself, I get stunned by all the fat on me

But I'll keep plugging away. For a few years in there, I tried the "your genes define your weight --- so love yourself" approach. Didn't work, I just gained weight and felt like a loser.

I really want this to work. So I'm back!! (again)

                        good for you!!!!

now don't get discouraged if you don't get a scale lose after your exercise equal to your exercise cals burned up cause scales only tell you the change in your total mass not how much fat mass you have burned off

Thanks, 2big, for reminding me of that. You've posted that (and others have) before. I keep forgetting that measurements will be a better way to go, than the scale!

                          Thanks! :wave

It doesn't matter what route we take to get where we want to go or how long it takes to get there as long as we can smile and stay focused that victory will be ours.

Great job and we are here for you!! :joy
