Hi everyone, I've been off atkins for probably about a week or more now. I have gained back some weight, but now I am doing Low calorie like 12-1300 a day. I've just been thinking about how I lost weight so fast with atkins and how I felt so different and didn't feel hungry. Thats things that I miss, and the weight loss to. Doesnt come off as quick. I need something, I dont know, I need someone to help me. I think the reason why I went off was I started eating carbs and it just kept going, its so hard. I need to lose the weight, VERY bad. I am always going ON AND OFF diets, failing each time. I am an emotional eater. :no Any advice for me?

You have made the first step by coming here. There is great support here. It is hard to make yourself "let go" of those carbs and if your like me you say well just one more and then I'll start but that never happens. If Atkins is what you want to do then pick a day and start over. You won't be hungry and you will lose a lot of weight. You need to make up your mind , is it worth not eating sugar (etc) to be healthy and add years to your life? It was for me. It was do or die. This is one of the greatest support groups I have found but beware you might find it addictive LOL. I have lost 76 pounds on atkins and could not do it any other way. If I got hungry I would over eat. That doesn't happen here. Good Luck on whatever you decide and know we are here.

Hi, Chuncky! I think that the reason 1200 calories make you so hungry is because of the low-fat issues. If you're not getting enough fat, the blood sugars will register you as being hungry because even proteins break down into sugars on some level, if I'm not mistaken!

I think it just seems REALLY hard to get back into Atkins because our bodies get so addicted to the carbs that the thought of being without them does a number on our psyches.

Also, Atkins so removes the hunger issues that it really does force a person to re-examine why they're eating if not really hungry.

I'll admit I've been struggling the ladt 2 weeks because I've given myself excuses for eating candy (being that I'm stressed and I 'deserve' it). Bad idea! I've lost 110 pounds on this way of eating, and I can't afford to go back to where I was before. I have too much to lose in gaining weight.

So just start this minute. Make some hard-boiled eggs up and be ready for your next meal. Plan this minute to change how you choose to eat. Keep that 1500 calorie meal plan, and make sure that a fair portion of that is calories from fat. Remember that the fat is what satisfies your hunger, not the carbohydrates which cause your blood sugar to do the wibbly wobbly dance.

      You can do it!

I think [please don't take offense] that you need to figure out why you have gotten to the way you are now, and deal with it. I know it helped me to deal with my demons and confront myself as to why I have turned to food all my life. When I got that all sorted out it was just a matter of changing old habits, because I am extremely happy with my life [now], I'd just fallen into a pattern that was unhealthy.

        Good luck to ya! :hug

I agree with both fancypants and cleo. Good advice! :nod And especially what fancypants was advising, about trying to study about how you got to where you are weight wise. I know for me I now know the reasons behind my weight loss. It definitely is a carb addiction for me. Apparently I've read that carbs also probe our "feel good" hormones in the brain I believe its called serotonin, and this is also why we eat too many carbs. I was also an emotional eater and because of my emotions and different things going on on my life, I was eating emotionally big time. Apparently I am one of those with the easy fat to lose, its mostly on my abdomen, but its very lose fat. I've been told its the easiest to lose, but still losing weight is hard work. For me its a lifestyle change. Every week I go to this nutrition centre to get weighed and have my BMI (body fat %) checked, and they follow a low carb low fat plan, but I've told the doctor there that I'm doing Atkins and only going to his Centre to buy Splenda/ vitamins and using the scale there. I enjoy going to my weekly weigh ins ( have to go tonight in fact, which I'm excited about). Anyways, he was discussing about how my weight is coming off slowly, because I have fallen off the bandwagon a few times and I was following their way of eating (low carb/low fat), but now decided to stick with Atkins, as I believe in the way of eating 100%. But I was telling him, that I'm not going to beat myself up over falling off the wagon too much, because overall I see an improvement in my lifestyle habits, as I'm so carb conscious. Even my body cant handle too many carbs like before, I actually get sick if I go on a carb binge! But I know that I have changed my lifestyle, but just need to stick with Atkins 100% as I'm trying to do this time around, and I'm sure the weight will fall off. The point is it has to be a lifestyle change..... ha

You sound like i used to.
set lots of mini goals at 10 - 20 lbs increments and be happy and proud as you reach each one, you have to know and realize why you want to do this if it is going to work for you, i had always, always been off and on every diet or pill, or anything that i thought would help, but i was never happy with that and never lost weight or did but gained it back rihgt away, once i decided one and for all that this was what I wanted to do, things got better and eaiser to stick too.
good luck and come here for support YOU CAN do this

I am also going to offer support. Put yourself and your health first! I was a carb addict in the worst way, and I truly do believe it is the "calming or feel good" effect of carbs that made me eat them until stuffed full. A serving for me was about 4 times that of an actual serving, sometimes more.

People like us NEED Atkins because we just can't say, I will have one Pringle or one cookie, right! Atkins says no to these things, not moderate them, and that keeps me in check.

Get back to a clean Induction and get back to a great WOL! ha
