  • A Little Testament about the Atkins Diet from a Preggo!

I know I'm not around as much as I was with my new duties and the new board and the kids being out of school, and I've seen a lot of newbies here at CC which is awesome. I just had a wonderful doctors appointment and wanted to share a little testimoney with our newbies and remind some of our old members who are struggling right now just how great being healthy is!

To begin with, I started Atkins in 2004 weighing in over 330 some pounds. I had high blood pressure and had type two diabetes. I was miserable, sickly, and had no energy.

To me weight loss is a spiritual, mental, and physical thing, so I began working on all three areas. I used the Atkins diet and exercise for the physical part. Over a year I lost 95 pounds which of course affected me mentally and spiritually too. I have more confidence and feel so much better about myself. In January my weight loss went into a stall and in February I realized I was having pregnancy symptoms which shocked me since my DH had a vasectomy four years ago. Come to find out the vasectomy didn't work and I was pregnant with our fifth child. I went into Atkins Maintenance and upped my carbs to 80 carbs a day.

I have been concerned about gestational diabetes since I had it with my last son. I've also worried about my blood pressure and weight gain. I am happy to say that my blood pressure has been absolutely normal during this whole pregnancy and my weight gain has been minimal... a whole whopping eight pounds. On top of it, today they tested my blood sugar and it was normal! I am just so happy! It is just a testament to what living a healthy life style can do for you!!

So to those of you just starting... Hang in there! It is well worth the trip... bumps and all! And for those of us who have become complacent... It's time to get off our arses and get back to living healthy again!

    Big Atkins Hugs all around!

Dawn that is excellent news! Hope your pregnancy goes well! I know what its like to have complications, as I had toxemia with my first son and had high blood pressure near the end, and had to have him delivered prematurely. Thankfully he is fine and healthy now..

The second pregnancy I had i was nervous as **** about getting toxemia again, but thankfully it didn't come, and i had a normal pregnancy etc.

Cheers to a healthy pregnancy for you!

Congrats, Dawn. I had a horrific pregnancy, and am using this diet in the hopes of conceiving again with a normal healthy pregnacy. You've given me hope. Thanks.

                      Dawn,

You are such an inspiration. I know we throw that word around a lot here at ADBB. I just want you to know, I mean it. You and I have always had a special friendship that we enjoyed. And I miss our little 'competition's'. But I can't tell you how happy I am that the reason is, because you are going to have a baby. A Baby girl no less. I have been praying for a healthy pregnancy for you, and mini mucko.
God is wrapping his loving arms around you both. What more could we ask? That is truly inspiring.

You take good care of yourself, and that pink bundle of love. And congratulations on a healthy, Atkin's , pregnancy!!

                      Hugs,Tammy
