  • Cancer and the way we eat! Calling all knowledgable people!

Could someone reply with some documented information on the different types of eating that can effect the chances of one getting cancer?

I am a bit confused.....recently I have read two articles on this, (I wish I would have taken note as to whom the authors of the articles were! I read one in a magazine at the local supermarket and the other at a local conference on nutrition.)One of the versions says that a diet high in sugar, actually feeds cancer, and the other said that a diet high in protein causes the the body to go into an acidic state rather than maintaining an alkili enviroment, and that article says that causes cancer! WOW! Whom to believe!!!! :raving

I can't believe that eating a diet high in protein along with lots of natural fruits and veggies could do this to the body. I am the healthiest I have been in a long time by eating this way. (20 carbs per day on extended induction.)

Please advise if you have any good information on this issue. I would greatly appreciate it! :wave

I have no medical knowledge about this but I imagine that as we are not on a high sugar OR a high protein eating plan it wouldn't affect us. :hug
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

I do not know much about it either, but perhaps eating in the extremes causes screw ups internally. Eating this way really doesn't seem to be extreme unless you are downing gallons of cheese and 20 pounds of pork a day. The protein is balanced out with the vegetbles and fiber and later grains, so with the water adn vitamins, I think all is well ensive

Here is a live chat with Dr. Atkin's before his death abouth this very subject!

beachgirl_ca2001: Dr. Atkins, it seems like every week there is a new "cancer fighting food." In your own opinion what is the best thing we can eat to prevent cancer-causing cells and detoxify our bodies? Thank you for your answer.

Dr. Atkins: There is no one thing, but there is an entire nutritional program that will serve that purpose. That nutritional program includes lifestyle change. The first principle is to make sure you're not carrying excess weight. If you are, the best way to lose weight is by controlling carbohydrate consumption. That's because it's the most efficient way to lose weight and the other is that it thwarts the development of cancer, because cancer cells feed on glucose as their primary fuel. Normal cells feed on oxygen. Secondly, anti-oxidants are an important factor in preventing cancer, and therefore choosing foods that are concentrated in their anti-oxidant content, most of which are fresh vegetables, is a major mechanism for preventing cancer

Thanks you all for your input to my question! Very informative!

I hope I did not mislead anyone into thinking I feel that Atkins is a high protein diet in any sense of the word...just that I am eating more protein than I had been prior to Atkins!

              Thanks again!
