  • Soda, Sodium, Diet Sprite

I've found that I really enjoy Diet Sprite in addition to my daily water intake, but I've been warned that the sodium in Diet Sprite prevents weight loss - does this mean that sodium prevents fat loss and interferes with the woe or just makes the numbers on the scale more evil?

    Thoughts from the experienced folks?

Hello and welcome to the ha

From my experience, sodium holds on to the water in your body. I don't think it prevents actual fat loss, but the numbers on the scale will go screwy and you might get discouraged.

I have been trying to avoid caffeine and sodium, but I need all the help in losing weight that I can get. My fiancee (who is also doing atkins, mostly), drinks diet cokes ALL the time and he is losing more weight then me! (but he is a guy, so it is easier for him to lose weight anyway).

Hi! Thanks for the welcome! I appreciate it. I guess I should create a signature at some point...

Hmmm, I guess I'm okay with that for my first week of induction - I should probably cut it out before I have to weigh myself at the end of induction. I've vowed this time around (with weight loss) not to weigh myself as much. We'll see if that works.

I'm a guy, too - does that mean good luck for me?

      Well, I guess we'll see.

Thanks for your thoughtfulness and reply.

Yes it will hold onto water and make the scale register higher, but I don't think Diet sprite has that much sodium, what 30mg? What you should be worrying about is the Aspertame in it. Its a no-no and we are advised to stay away from it, not only does it cause 25% of people to stall, but also its just plain crap!

If you're doing induction, I've read in many places that doing a completely "clean" induction is the best thing you can do. It gives your body a chance to kind of de-toxify, and you might find that you've lost the taste for soda at the end of 2 weeks (I certainly don't crave it anymore!). If you check out the induction forum on this site, you might find more information about it. Goodluck!

            FYI

Diet Sprite is now made with splenda

            There is no caffeine

30 mgs sodium per 8 oz.

It tastes to me, the same as when it was not made with Splenda, so it's cool with me.

They really have diet sprite with splenda??.. I have never seen it, only the diet coke. I miss diet sprite and will have to look for it.
Is the labeling different from the regular diet sprite? Like how the coke with spleda label changed color??

To tell you the truth, I went to pick up a bottle of Sprite and noticed the little spelenda swoosh on it. I didn't see any other bottles that were different. So, maybe it was chanegd so that all Diet sprite will be made that way ensive

I do know that AZ is a test state and they might be doing some kind of advanced marketing here before it goes nationwide. I rememebr when we were in AZ for my brother's wedding and ZIMA had not come out, yet. The caterers brought it in and we were downing it like there was no tomorrow cause we thought it was a new type of 7-Up. Yeah, we found out later on it was alcohol and we had just never heard of it yet in NY.

Thanks for that update - I had no idea that it had switched, but I'll definitely check the cans I find to make sure that they're okay. I ended up going out of town on vacation and business and it has been relatively easy to stay away from Diet Sprite this weekend since restaurants rarely serve it. I have managed to find several great restaurants in Washington DC that do serve extremely Atkins-friendly foods, among them a Tapas place called Cilantro ( http://www.cilantrobistro.com/ ). Great Beef tenderloin, spicy chicken, and bacon-wrapped shrimp with horseradish. All appearing to be Induction-friendly.

Thanks for this advice as well. I've been mostly clean, and my soda cravings have finally gone away. The Diet Sprite may have just been a first-three-days crutch.

                    Happy Sunday!

I went browsing in Michigan and Virginia (Metro DC) supermarkets and couldn't find it with Splenda - still aspartame......I hope it switches out here soon.
