Re: Have you lost over 100 pounds? Post here!

Atkins was, and still is the eureka moment for me. I finally found a lifestyle that suits me. Although full of trial and error at times, I have been succesful with this woe. My highest weight for me was 374 in 1994. I heard about atkins back then and made an attempt with very little info to go by. But managed to get 40 lbs off. In 2000 I found out I had type-2 diabetes. It wasn't untill 2004, that my doctor gave me the wake up call that I needed. He told me that if I didn't get the weight off, and get my blood chemistry healthy, that I was looking at an early death. He suggested that I try the Atkins diet. I ran with it. I bought the Atkins book and read it. After being on Atkins for forty-eight days my Type-2 diabetes went away, and no longer required medication. After ten months ,of no cheating and strict induction, I lost 100 lbs., and weighing 234. In April 2006, I was at 220. I maintaned at 220 for seven months. Then I started experimenting with low carb processed food. Thinking because it said "low carb" that I was o.k., but in reallity, it really screwed me up and I gained 49 lbs., Lesson learned! PROCESSED FOOD IS PROCESSED FOOD regardless if it says Low Carb. So starting today I plan on getting back on track with what I know works for me, "ATKINS". I'm going shopping Monday, and I'm not buying anymore of that "crap". I'm not going to set myself up for pitfalls. I'm going to take one day at a time, stay in induction untill I reach 220 and start owl phase. Thats my story, wish me luck! Oh' ya, All of you are awesome and such an inspiration. I'm so glad I found you. It's so nice to have this much support and feed back. Thanks!

It hasn't been easy I struggle each and Every day to make the right decisions. I was Plagued with attempt after attempt of failure. I never got past more then 100 days and then threw it all away for one binge then another and another. This time something has changed. I have committed to changing my life forever. A diet this is not, it's my life my WOE, I will never go back to where I was I can't afford too. With numerous health complications I just can't allow myself to slide back into the old comfort of eating that way at this Point im my life. I want to enjoy my life and live it to the fullest, I could have never done that had I kept up with what I was doing.

At the Point when I began my journey I had numerous issues to deal with my mom a wonderful Person Died when I was 14 and I never fully dealt with the loss, with the help of a wonderful counsellor I was able to pick up the pieces and deal with the pain that lived in my head and for the first time move on with my life. It was at that moment I decided to give Atkins 1 more try I had tried so many times before but, I was never successful I failed miserably and put on all the weight I lost every time. This time I was determined and I started a picture Journal to remind me of where I came from. I started to post this has been a life saver. When you begin to post and people start to know you it's like you gain a whole new family to help you deal with your life. This was discovery number one in my journey. Discovery number 2 was the need for exercise. I started 2 weeks into my Journey and have neer looked back I am an exercise addict and it's amazing how wonderful it makes you feel, how much of a Boost it is for your mind, body, and soul. It's a release for stressful days and I thank god every day I am able to do these things that I never could do before, because of pain in my feet and knees I could hardly walk up the stairs standing was a pain my back hurt my self image sucked among other things. Atkins has given me back my life and I as so PROUD of myself each and every day that I am successful, I look back and see myself in my Pictures and I wonder how I ever got that far. It's amazing I never saw myself as big as I was and I am glad I came out from my Hole and decided to live life to the fullest again.

If you want it you can do it, I have faith in myself now and self confidence it's amazing what changing your outlook will do.

Before: I never went anywhere. I was depressed, embarrassed, unhealthy, unsociable, never wore makeup, I didn't do any activities with my kids or grandkids. If my daughters or husband wanted me to go shopping or anywhere, I didn't have the energy or want to go out so anyone could see me. I felt so empty.

Now: I don't have enough hours in the day to do all the things I need to get done. I am editor of two newsletters, I am President of the State Writer's league, I organize conferences and speak at workshops. I volunteer a lot in the community. I take the grandkids swimming, to the park, go shopping with my daughters, go on picnics. I am excited to meet new people and socialize with friends and relatives. I jump right in and invite people over and to go places with me. My life is fun, full of adventures and so worth living.

I did it by making a committment to myself. I did the Atkins plan (by the book) I exercised daily (walking, weights and swimming), I kept a journal, I drank my water, took my supplements and never went anywhere without a plan. (I take LEGAL foods with me everywhere. I have a cooler in the car that I pack with tuna packets, pork rinds, water bottles anytime I go somewhere)

wow !! your story is such an inspiration ! i have about a 100 pounds to loose and i am glad i read your post. Best of luck to everybody !!

Your stories are soo helpful. I am sixty years old in August and have been over weight all of my life. I sometimes get depressed with the whole thing and think what is the use of losing weight now? I have looked at your pictures and read your stories and know that there really could be a future for me as a slim woman. I have lost about 14lbs already and I think it will take time but I need to lose another 100lbs.

Thank you for posting your inspirational pictures and stories it is certainly a great help.

I went on a cruise and then that was it. I went crazy and then always found an excuse not to start back and the weight came back on. This August I got serious again, and started back on ANA at a weight of 356 lbs.

I have now lost 124 lbs since the very beginning and 86 lbs since restarting in August. I have another 70 lbs to go to make goal of 200 lbs and am now on rung 3 of OWL and still losing at a good rate. I originally had a goal on when I wanted to get to my goal weight. Now I don't care how long it takes. When I get there, I get there. I am just going to get there and when I do, I will stay there!!!
This was what I posted a year ago. I am happy to say that I did make goal and in fact have lost over 200 lbs from my heaviest weight. Right now I am fluctuating up and down, but am 8 lbs below my goal weight and have been maintaining for several months now.

Guys, it can be done. I have had to reintroduce myself several times to people that I know, because they do not recognize me at my new slimmer weight. Oh, what a feeling. The shock factor is awesome!!!

Thanks Kissqueen for bumping up this thread, otherwise i would never have been able to read such amazing stories. all of you have done so well, you must all feel so proud of yourselves and you should feel great, you have worked hard to get where you have been thanks for sharing!!

                                ---------------------

A lil about my story, i think ive posted this afew times so might sound like a broken record lol. 2 years ago i was 353lbs, the doctors and everyone said i had to lose weight because i couldnt live my life properly. I could barely walk or stay awake. I was given a strict diet to follow which was basically a tiny bit of cereal for breakfast and meat/salad for lunch and same for dinner. As the weight fell off i stopped eatting the cereal and just stuck with the meat and veg for both my meals. And also lots of fruit. I didnt read the atkins book or know about any forums so only went by the piece of paper the doctors gave me. So evercising loads more and only eating meat and veg for a year and half i lost over 153lbs. But because my diet was so strict, not like atkins where you can reintroduce new food into your diet plan i got bored of eating just meat/veg and fruit. (not even diary cos im not much of a milk person and cheese was like abig problem in my mind) i lost my way and put on 52lbs in a year.

Since then i have tried many times to restart my diet but always failing. I figured i cant keep thinking about the past and just tell myself im 252lbs and i have *** amount to lose before im in a healthy weight range. I wont think about how much i was before and im gonna take each day as it comes. So far im on day 11 today and ive already planned out what im gonna eat today and tomorrow so i feel incontrol. Im in the process of reading the book and i am trying (gonna try) to exercise again. Its a long journey but i feel confident if i dont think of how long it takes i will get there one day. I just cant believe i let myself slip up and put 52lbs back on, that cant happen again.
