I was shopping at Wal-mart for some summer clothes yesterday, and I had the pleasure of meeting one of the most ignorant, socially unskilled morons to ever walk the face of the planet.
She was working in the fitting rooms. About 50 years old, sort of average-sized. As she unlocked the fitting room door for me, I pointed at my cart full of try-on clothes and made a joke about not having a thing to wear in this sudden heat wave. And she said: "I know what you mean! I always had a hard time finding anything to wear when I was really, really heavy like you."
I think I still have rug burns on my chin from my jaw hitting the floor! I just stood there, gawping at her in utter amazement, while she went on and on about losing 150 pounds with her gastric bypass surgery . . . about how she understood how miserable I must be, being so incredibly fat and all.
Now, I have been insulted by mean people. I have been criticized by doctors and fitness experts, and made fun of my family members. But I have never, NEVER been slammed so badly by someone in such a nice, understanding way. That poor little idiot meant so well, and wanted so badly to brag about her own success. I honestly believe that she meant no harm . . . she's just stupid. And apparently raised in the wild where social skills were never taught.
I went to the store manager and he assured me that she will be disciplined . . . he apologized profusely and agreed with me that there was no excuse for what she did. She's just sort of a dim bulb.
