  • Will be in the US for a few days

    Hi everyone

Just thought I'd let you know that I'll be visiting Boston for 4 days on 17th July. I have a few days training to complete before I can make any progress in my new job and need to have an interview with the big bods out there to make sure they like what they see. It is a small company in the UK but HQ is in Boston. I have to say I'm a little nervous but am preparing myself to blow their socks off (keeping my fingers crossed)

I wanted to ask any of you from around there, what will the weather and temperature be like at that time (approx). I need to be smart and due to losing 29lbs, I now have to go and buy myself a new work wardrobe! (really I'm not complaining)

I've been to America twice before but when I was a child and I'll also be travelling on my own so this will be a new experience for me. If anyone knows of great places to visit and somewhere good to eat, let me know as I'll have an extra day to play with after training.

    Thanks in advance x

My brother lives there, but I've never been there myself. I think you can expect sunshine and warmth, mixed with some rain. Make sure you bring sweater or light jacket, as its on the ocean. As for sights to see, have you visited online sites for Boston? Its LOADED with American History...mainly VRS. the British...hehehe. Boston Tea Party, Revolutionary War sights and memorials. LOTS of stuff. If I get a chance I'll research it today for you, and come back and post some links. I'm wishing I was going there, as I love New England and the ocean.

I am only 30 minutes north of Boston. In the middle of July it should be in the mid 80's to mid 90's and maybe around 65-75 at night. It is New England though so you should be prepared to have at least a few warm items just in case. Crazy things happen weather wise around here.

There are a million places to go and eat in Boston. I bet you can find a website just by typing in Boston Mass and it will give you a million things to do. Also if you want to get out of the city there are beaches and stuff right off the highway. Good luck and have fun.

What great fun! but I'm sure you be really nervous meeting the big bosses. Be confident and show them how great you are. They must be pretty sure your the right stuff to go to all the expense of flying you there.

When you shop for your new clothes keep mixing and matching in mind. Solid color suits with blouses and extra skirts/slacks that match the suit jackets are great. Everything should work with at least two other items. I've often built an entire work wardrobe around two solid color suits with blouses that mix and match the two suits then added some matching printed blouse and skirts that works with the jackets. You can do a lot then. On hot days carry the jacket until you arrive at the building then put it on just before you enter. That way you have the cool business look without getting hot.

          Have a great trip.

I live south of Boston, but I work in the city. If you want some must see things (depending on your schedule) PM me and I can give you some ideas.

You'll love Boston, there is some definite British influence on lots of stuff around here. Some things might remind you of home. It's a great town, and very walkable to see lots of stuff (again depending on your schedule).

Holly have a great time visiting Boston. I'm North and West of the city and it'll be pretty warm mid-July. If you have the time there are so many sights to see in town you could wear yourself out walking from place to place.

Do you already have your hotel booked? Where you're staying will dictate (a bit) what is within walking distance. The conceirge at the hotel will have tons of places to see listed. Take advantage of that.

Feel free to PM if you want.

Thanks everyone for your great responses. I have just heard that the trip has been extended to a full week, with 3 days training rather than 2 so with a little extra time I should be able to see quite a bit of Boston.

I am going to be staying at the home of a family friend but am unsure at present where this is exactly so I'll PM those that have offered for further advice when I know more.

I'm starting to get quite excited now. Thanks for the weather and clothes advice, I'll be going shopping at the weekend. I have been looking at a few websites that tell me more about Boston but was also hoping for some personal recommendations for must try's. I'll keep in touch and let you all know how it's going and, post interview, how it went.

                Thanks again x
