I had not heard of this. Are you drinking plenty of water? Perhaps there is an allergy? Without seeing a menu, we can't rule out a vitamin deficeincy either.

sorry I am not much help. let us know what you decide.

    Good luck

      Hi BAM
      are you taking a multivitamin?
my lips crack when I don't take Berroca but I don't know how Atkins friendly it is.

I get that problem when I don't drink enough water or eat enough fat. My skin and hair dries out too. Are you just starting in induction? Are you getting enough good fats? Fat should make up 65% of your food intake.

I had something similar happen to me about 2 months or so into Atkins. My lips weren't really chapped or cracked, but they felt like they were dry all of the time and almost like the top layer had been peeled off or something, but I had no peeling - they were very sensitive and I was constantly having to moisturize them and I found myself licking my lips a lot.

It lasted about 2 weeks and then went away. Have no idea what caused it - drank plenty of water and ate plenty of fats. Maybe it's just one of those odd transitions some of us go through on this WOE? :confused

For some reason for me, when I start to drink a lot of water, my lips dry out. Especially in the summer here in california. It went away after about 2 weeks though. Might be ketosis related, or have something to do with beginning to drink water. Weird though!

                Chapped cracked lips

I'm not sure if your lip issue Atkins related but I do know that Aquaphor is beyond wonderful for cracked lip corners. I had an allergic reaction to some makeup and could not get anything to heal me. I believe Aquaphor did the trick in 2 days. It rocks! :yes

I smear vasoline on my lips before I go to bed each night. Might try this and see if it helps.

I hadn't thought of it being WOE related. Now you got me wondering.

Please do try it; I love it! A gf of mine told me about Aquaphor. Her son has to use it during the winter for his horribly chapped lips. For years, I slept with a Mary Kay product on my lips. Aquaphor now!

I'm certainly not a doctor or anything medical so I can't comment on the WOE. I can, however, comment and say you look GREAT. WTG!!!

I'm sure you can; I got mine at CVS. I believe you'd find it in the Vaseline/lotion aisle.
Absolutely; we're all a wealth of info! It's also good for cracked skin in the winter, etc. :yes

I've seen aquaphor at wal-mart I believe...I agree with gracey912, it is great stuff! I took accutane a few years back...one of the side effects is severely chapped lips. Aquaphor was recommended to me by my dermatologist and it really works wonders. It's also great for mild skin rashes/burns. It has a very vaseline-like texture.

sometimes you have to ask for it at the pharmacy. I used it for my son with pacifier and diaper rash, cleared it up over night.
