  • Middle of the water(Mod or Goalie Question)

I was thinking today about something and I really would like to know. For those of you that are closest to goal or at goal such as bowulf,2big,ect, I am curious of the feeling you had halfway there.

Today I realised that I am halfway to goal and was trying to figure out my feelings about it. I know I am doing the right thing, and I've made it pretty far,and it seemed the only analogy that kept comeing up was a swimming pool. You leave the edge to cross to the other side, and then you get to a point, the middle of the water, where you are halfway there, You can't go back to the beginning, but the end still seems so far away...

How did you handle these feelings if you had them, how did it affect you in your journey?

That feeling where its not new to you anymore...the excitment of when you started your first day of induction. My goals keep me motivated but what do you use a mini-motivators?

this may seems stupid to most, but something thats really on my mind.

Hmm it took me 11 weeks to hit the 1/2 weigh point.
I guess I thought "jeez the next 30 should be a piece of cake."
It took 17 more weeks to hit goal.

So really you're not quite 1/2 way there yet if you're like me.:no

Every few days I'd step on the scale and I'd weigh a little less.
I guess I just hung with it and kept working out.

The real struggle begins when you hit goal and you're like "what now?"

Well, I'm nowhere near goal, but I can definitely relate to what you're asking. Because I fell into that exact trap. Once I got down to 300, I got satisfied with partial success, and I lost my motivation. Each person needs to find out what is gonna motivate them.

For me when I started, getting healthy enough to live long enough to be able to walk my daughter down the aisle (she's 2-1/2). Then when my blood pressure got better and my blood tests were better. I got complacent. I struggled for months trying to find a new spark. I think I've found it in my running. I want to run a marathon now. I know I can't do it at my current weight so that is my new "spark".

So you need to find what is gonna make you want to finish, and I think you already have it in your original motivation. You can't yet do what you started out to do. That should be enough, if not find something within yourself that will get you there.

I hope this answers your question somewhat.
      Jim

another view from the middle of the pool

I'm also in the middle of the pool and have been for quite a while.

Seemingly content with what I've done so far, not moving much from this spot. I think because I've been paused for so long I'm now ready to move again. Just took some time to get used to the new me. Now I can't imagine being anything but where I am. The before photos of me seem like forever ago.

I am working on readjusting my fat goggles. I've added a regular routine of exercise. I can see what I've achieved so far. I am now searching for what kicked me out of ketosis. Some hidden something in my foods I'm sure.

SO, it's back to the basics, logging my foods into fitday.com, measuring monthly and checking my inches at mybody.com, drinking my water and then some, and keeping the workouts going (they took me so long to get them fixed into my regular routine). I'm no longer content, it's time to move forward again.

This pause has given me the time to reflect, stabilize and work Atkins as my life plan, not a diet, not a temporary thing. 1st goal is to get back to ketosis and after my 2 weeks are up, maybe I'll try a little movement up the OWL levels (just enough to have some fruit possibly)??

So my very long response to your question is...my short term goals or motivations are now to work this plan so as to be able to change up my foods in August. I just need to be back in ketosis first, which means 2 solid weeks of straight induction, before we go on vacation, so I will be able to have more veggies and some flax muffins when we're traveling.

for me it was a deconstruction of the 300+ pounder so I never judged it as 1/2 way to goal. Keep your eyes and mind fouced on that new heathier smaller youand don't accept you have lost x and are looking so much better then before. Folk were always after me to post progress picka and i refused casue i didn't want mini victories to side track me. Took me 7 months to get down 100 pounds and 14 months to lose the last 46.

stay focused you are now an xxx pounder trying to get to goal, not minus yyy pounds and getting there. Keep that former verson of you posted where you can see where you are running from and you will not have any trouble staying focused. The old timers here can tell you i was always running from the 313 me nit worrying about being soe many pounds form gola.

Me too....I'm just over half way there, and seem to have stopped moving this last week! But I'm still working out, drinking my water, and staying to plan. I know that the lbs. will start to move again soon. Oh, and also praying for that Whooshie Fairy every night too!!! :yes

Cruiser she will come you don't worry.

I think the biggest help for me this time around is the fact that I am not concentrating on the weight number as much as I am the inches. I am dying to drop down into some 38's. although the scale numbers are nice boosters now and then.

2Big, What you said stuck in my head. I am not once 335 and now 288 trying to get to 230. I am 288 trying to get to 335.

Heres something else I've thought about. The easy part is over. The beginning. Its now time to step up and fight harder, stronger, more determination, preservance!

I always had goals set before me, so rather than one big pool. My journey was more like Minnesota, land of 10000 lakes. Get finished with one mission or goal, you start on another. Just recently, running has been a mini-goal of mine. Each time I go out and run, I am determined to do a little bit better than the last or run a bit further. I can never tell if I am half way there -- I can just do a bit better today than I did yesterday. I know at one point I might have been to be just be able to run one time around the block, let alone 2 miles. Just as I am sure, there will be a time in the future where I will feel the same way about 3 or 4 miles.

Of course, one of my big goals was to get in good enough shape to actually reenlist. I accomplished the one (the actually enlisting part), but I have not accomplished yet the "in shape" part -- hence the running. When I accomplished the reenlist part I slacked a bit I realize (too much legal OWL), so staying motivated is always a challenge. Right now, all I have to do to be motivated is ask which path am I on? The one that leads back to 400 or the one that completes an unannounced PT test without batting an eye or thinks he looks good in mirror. Each day I pick that path even though it may not always be even clear at the time.

Keep pushing yourself or not allow your satisfaction get too great, and the final pounds will be simply keep doing what you are currently doing. Perhaps in the future there will only be one path because the old self is totally gone.

Re: Middle of the water(Mod or Goalie Question)

just don't reset your mind every time you get to your minigoal you are always headed to final goal with several mini goals along that path.

Sort of like when you take kids in a car on a long trip. you reward them for several hours of quite riding with a mini stop at a fun place along the way . you don't change the final destination for your trip to be that fun place. they know they have to get back in the car and drive some more miles with another stop as a reward along the way, but it will be a long day in the car.
