  • My Turn to be Frustrated...grumble,grumble

    Hi guys,
Here I am off a huge loss in 6 weeks time (11 lbs) and now nothing for 17 days... I only measure my super-stubborn waist which has lost a measly 1/2 inch since June 29.

I am doing a Christmas challenge with myself. I want to lose 30 lbs by X-mas, sooo I need to lose 6 lbs in July. This mini-stall is not helping! I know what you are going to say..."your body will do what it wants, and it may not want to lose 30 lbs by X-mas." It is a goal, I am only shooting for that.

I have been drinking lots of water (at least 100 oz. per day), everyday I play with by very energetic boys (changes all the time, but I am outside in 90 degree weather sweating), and I have been eating just slightly to satisfaction, which means several small meals per day.

What do you guys think? Is my body just adjusting to a super fast weightloss? Should I do something else to get going again? I eat mostly meat, veggies, fat (mayo, butter, olive oil), eggs, some cheese. Basically, exactly how I ate when I lost that weight last month.

I think I'm whining! Forgive me...

    No Weigh Until Christmas Day!!!

Thank you, Lisa! I just hope things are happening inside that don't show up on the scale or measuring tape.

I feel your pain! Some days I wanna smack my body and say SNAP OUT OF IT ALREADY! We're losing weight and getting healthy, so get over it!

My body seems to like to drop a couple of pounds, then contemplate life and the universe for a month or so.

I never have whooshies, and even tried the whooshie sauce - nada!

Are you exercising other than playing with the boys? That might help - I say might because I exercise like a mad woman and the evil scale from just sits there mocking me.

But if you aren't doing any other exercises, it could make a difference for you!

The last short stall I had, I tried several things at once to shake it up. Something worked, but of course I'm not sure which variable it was Here's a few things I changed, maybe one of them may work for you..

The first thing I did was add more of a variety to what I was eating. I had been sort of eating the same staple foods over and over again for about two or three weeks, so I mixed it up a bit.

Secondly, I hadn't been eating breakfast beforehand because I was always rushing out the door in the morning. I felt much better after eating a little something, and I've heard it boosts your metabolism for the day.

Third, I really really stepped up my cardio. I had been exercising, but was doing some weight lifting etc. I notice I only get really good results after a really really good aerobic workout. I'm talking red cheeks, sweat pouring down my face kind of workout!

Lastly, I stopped eating around 6:30 pm, faithfully, every night, so at night my body would be forced to burn the fat in my body and not what was in my stomach.

I hope you find what works for you. You're doing great!!!

Also if you do your exercise before you eat that breakfast you need it will burn more fat than normal. Go get um girl!

Sounds like you are doing an amazing job. I know how frustrating it can be when you don't see those pounds fly off. Keep up the amazing work and the wooshie faerie will be there in no time.

When i set goals i set weight and inches i want to lose. Even when i don't see those pounds come off the inches are.

A lot of people stall at this point of their weight loss.

You also need to do purposeful exercise that elevates your heart rate into the aerobic "fat burn" zone for up to 60 mins 3x/week.
Maybe you can bike ride with your boys on a trail at a decent pace?

Re: My Turn to be Frustrated...grumble,grumble

Thank you guys, everything you said has been very, very helpful. I used to walk the trails near my old house in Iowa, but now I live out on a farm on gravel roads. I don't feel safe walking on them, and the dust here in Nebraska is horrid!

My worst obstacle is that my hubby works odd hours and most times I literally cannot get away from my boys to exercise. Iap, your suggestion is great, but my boys are only 5 and 2, so no bicycling, and no walking with them either, since the 2-year-old goes the opposite direction, goes too slow, then gets too tired...ugh!!

So, for now I run around with them on the farm. I also lift free weights and do floor exercises. I am not deluding myself, however, as I know as I get closer to goal, I am going to have to work-out lots more.

My oldest will be in school in a couple months, so that may help. I am just going to have to be patient as well.

Re: My Turn to be Frustrated...grumble,grumble

You might want to look at how many calories your eating. You have to burn about 3500 calories to loose 1 pound. You should track all your exercise and calories for the week on fitday. Then, just subtract the number of calories burned from the number of calories eaten and divide 3500. That will give you the number of pounds you should have lost, if any. I haven't been on this wol for that long but when my weight loss slowed down I put my menu on fitday and found that I was eating a lot more calories than I thought. Just one tablespoon of olive oil has almost 200 calories. I changed a few things around and found that I could eat a lot more food, and still be taking in a lot fewer calories.

                    Good luck

                    V.

Can you put a seat on your bike for the 2-year old? We were big bike-riders where we used to live (too much traffic here makes it unsafe) and would go on very long rides a few times a week. I hauled my son around until he was 3 and I had to make room for #2. I hauled her around until she was 4 and begged for her own bike. The backpack full of supplies was tied onto the back of their seat. Once they were both on their own I felt like I had a booster rocket it was so much easier getting up those hills! I know you can the trailer type child carriers too but I've never tried one so I don't know how difficult they might be to use.

Very good suggestion, yankee, thank you!

@vixie: I do watch my calories somewhat, but Atkins is not a calorie-counting diet, since we have the metabolic advantage. The 3500 cal rule applies with most diets, but isn't always the case for Atkins. If you are just starting, you shouldn't be counting calories, as you will most likely not eat enough fat, since fat has the most calories. Fat and protein are what fills you up, and although they are higher in calories, you will get fuller faster, thus eat less and take in fewer calories.

Since I am much farther along than you are, I do need to watch my calories, but I try to do it by only eating until I am just barely satisfied. You can never take in too many calories if you are eating the right foods and listening very closely to your hunger and satiety cues.

                        Thank you though!!!

he first congrats on the great job you are doing and second nobody but you sees those scale numbers. When you enter a room folk see the healthier smaller you not the X pounder unless you tatoo the number on your forehead.

Now that 2 yr old sounds like you need to get a challenge going for him like run a head x steps and i will time you type thing. give him a whistle and an official walking hat and when he blows that whisle you know it is time to check his time. As he gets a little older put him in charge of timing you. Kids love to be in charge of stuff. You can make your walk a nature walk and ask him to find stuff a head of you in the field etc.
Or you can invest in a kid exercise video and workout with them to it. I can remember doing Jacl La Lane with my mother when I was a toddler. They will not even know it is exercsie unlesss you tell them they will just think it is a new fun game to play with Mommy.
