  • How would you react?

OK, today was my official weigh day. I didn't get to use the scale till about close till 2 pm. I knew I should have waited to eat, but I didn't care and I ate some salty foods the days before. In otherwords, I was prepaired for a little gain.

So I got on, and I couldn't believe my eyes.....304!

I started to think for a second and wonder how in the world could I gain 16lbs in a week. I preweighed the week before. Of course, I know I've increased my exercise amount this past week and ate quite a few salty foods for two days going into the weekend.

I am just curious, how would all of you take it? Talk about a nice psychological punch. I am planning to measure tommorow morning so that should show the true results.

*Edit: This is the same scale I've used since the beginning. Also, I lost 7lbs in 2 hours lol. so I think the scale maybe giving some problems too.

I think I'd react by taking a chainsaw to the scale!! Don't worry, you're doing great! That was just a strange fluke, try using a different scale or waiting another week and see what happens.

Those scale bumps especially when weighing at the wrong or different times can be expected. It might have been just a bad scale, or it might have been all water retention. A couple weeks ago, my weight bounced 11 pounds up legtimately in a few days and then the water left over the course of 5 days. I attributed mine to higher sodium and inflamed muscles retaining water after hard workouts. Keep your attitude positive, and keep hitting the gym.

What temporarily goes up should also come down just as quick if you keep with the plan.

              Re: How would you react?

It's things like this that make me prefer to weigh at least every other day or so. If I'm low all week, and then on my saturday weigh in i'm up five pounds, I don't get as upset as if i had waited until saturday to weigh, ya know? That's what works for me though, I'm sure it doesn't work for everyone.

                Re: How would you react?

all scales are a little goofy. If you shift your weight a little to the left, you get one reading and if you shift the the right, you get a totally different reading. Just go over everything and make sure your doing everything right. Im sure its probably nothing.

                Good luck,

                V.

                  Re: How would you react?

When I started this diet for the first three months my scale kept going down to 360 then back up to over 370! It was incredibly disheartening! Then I bought a $50 scale that weighs up to 400...I was down to 340!!!!! I tell you....PARTY!!! Here I had lost 40 pounds, and thought I hadn't really lost any!

It could just be water retention, but I think its more likely scale funkinisation. You're doing awesome, Fight, so just keep it up, and whatever it is will sort itself out.

                    Re: How would you react?

It never really worried me at all. The scale that I use is a $500 scale, but it has seen better days.

I just thought how funny it was, and would hate for it to happen to someone who wasn't mentally prepared.

Yeah that is the downfall to weighing monthly. the day I weigh could be a bad day, ya know?

UPDATE: I measured to day, I've lost a total of 12inches in the past month, including 2 inches off of my waist. If MyBodycomp.com is correct, I've also lost 4.8% bodyfat and I am now at 218 lbm.[/b]

So I would say, there was achievment.

Don't we all really hate our scales? I know that last year I went out and bought a second scale only to have them say the same thing. I knew they were in this together. They just ganged up and lied to me...

I weigh every day, once a day, first thing in the morning.
If I'm up 3 pounds one day it's not hard to figure out why (salt, stomach issues etc)
Also I'll know if my scale goes blooey one day.

I'm hesitant to get on my scale. I've been working out daily and I have the feeling I may have actually added lbs of muscle (though I am hoping to have lost enough fat to negate the muscle gain)... anyway. scales can be evil. I am going to try to keep from weighing until the end of the summer

It actually did go blooey one day...the lb/kg switch was moved somehow so I was suddenly 91!
