Need thoughts and prayers please...

My dad is in very poor health right now. He's been diagnosed with cancer and was to have surgery on Friday. He went in to the hospital last night though. His kidneys are failing and he's got a blockage in his heart.

Please keep him in your prayers for me. I've not been able to see my family since 1997, and I'm not ready for this road yet. I don't think I can take time off of work right now. I'm going to try to arrange something tho.

I know you don't think you can but you really need to go see your dad as this could be the last time you will ever be able to tell him you love him. I know you think he is going to pull through cause afterall he is DAD but sometimes God has other plans. I lost my dasd suddenly this spring and can tell you there are lots of things I'd have done that week differently if I'd have know he was going to die the day he did.

We just went through this with my father-in-law, I'm so grateful I was able to be with him through it all, I learned a lot from the experience and will be praying for your family and praying that you can find a way to see your dad.

I second the others here that have suggested that you do everything you can to go see your father. My mother was hospitalized and passed away this spring in another state and looking back on it, I couldn't imagine not being there. I'm sure your work will understand the situation. We were in the busiest time of year when my mom was hospitalized. Basically, I gave them no choice but to give me time off. Thankfully, they were understanding and let me take as much time as I needed, even though we were overloaded at work and I did not have any vacation time coming.

If you do decide to go and need to fly, I would recommend United. They offer bereavement tickets for last minute flights for use when somebody is very sick or for a funeral. I saved over half of the ticket price, and they leave the ticket open ended. Once you know when you are able to return, you just call up and schedule your return for any time. Just a quick tip.
