  • Labor Day Strategies

Ah, those grills are being fired up for the Labor Day barbecues and parties all over America.

Still, just because the parties are going on doesn't mean those pounds don't have to come on with it!

Here are some strategies to get you through this first holiday of many more to come. Please feel free to add more, stories, experience, anything that will help all of us at ADBB get through this first of the 'fall' holidays!

    Tips for Labor Day Success

Make sure your meat isn't being marinated before it hits the grill!

Don't be afraid to ask what's in something! It isn't rude of you at all. What looks like a plain hamburger could have Lipton Onion soup mix in it!

Instead of potatoes on the shishkebabs, go for green peppers, red bell peppers, jalapenos, and tomato.

Keep hydrated and wear plenty of sunscreen this holiday weekend! Water not only keeps your skin hydrated, it keeps you less hungry and healthy!

Watch tuna salads and other deli-prepared foods. Many of them have hidden sugars.

Don't be afraid to say, "NO!" Many people tell me, "You can have THIS! It's low-calorie!" I just tell them my doctor says I can't have it. My Dr is Dr Atkins!

Plan AHEAD what your strategies will be, and put the emphasis on exercise and activity, friends and fun! Food is nourishment-- not the holiday itself!

If you are at a party, set up the croquet set and challenge friends to a game! It keeps you away from the food, and gets others moving, too! (Plus you'll get some of your exercise in for the day!)

Take food you know you CAN have. You'll be surprised how many dig right in and would never know you're following a low-carb lifestyle.

Keep copies of Tammy's "induction list" with you. It's pocket-sized and can be printed out and kept with you at all times! This acts as a reminder for a last-minute "can I have this"... especially as far as potatoes and corn are concerned (back away from them!)

2big has said this time and again, and it's something that has stuck with me: Holidays are about the people you're with and not the food.

How many times does our focus become what we're eating and not who we're spending time with? Don't relegate this holiday season to one of food amnesia and tripple helpings of Auntie Mahetabel's fudge cake supreme!

Don't hurt your body by taking recerational drugs in the form of food this holiday season!

Keep your senses clear, your body clean, and your hips thinner this Labor Day Weekend!

I'm sorry to say I caved in at a barbeque this weekend. I won't mention all that I had but it definitely was over 20 g of carbs. However, the stuff is out of my house and I am back on track. I need to up the water though, got to get back into ketosis.
