  • I broke my ankle

I was at a friends house and tripped over the last step on her stairs. I twisted my ankle pretty bad. When it swelled the size of a tennis ball last night I decided I needed to go get an x-ray. I twisted it so hard that a ligament or tendon I can't remember which, pulled a piece of bone off my ankle. I have to keep it elevated until I go see the doctor on Tuesday. I hope it heals fast. Wouldn't you know that I have a very busy week ahead of me. I have a meeting every night for the next 9 nights and I was supposed to be putting on a PTO picnic at our kids school for about 500 people on Thursday. I am so mad this happened. So much for exercising any time soon. I am using our computer chair with wheels to get around until my mother brings crutches tomorrow. It's quite a sight! Luckily, I had made some big dinners the last few nights, so I have lots of easy to heat up meals for a couple of days.

Sorry to hear about your injury Michele. Take care of yourself - pushing it will only make it worse and longer to return to your exercising. Now get to resting and elevating...

That is SOOOO true! Take care of yourself and try to enjoy a bit of relaxation. I hope the pain isn't too terrible.

                    Re: I broke my ankle

Thank you everyone for the kind comments. I'm not in much pain at all. Once they wrapped it in a half cast it didn't hurt much at all. They made me take some codene meds (which I didn't think I needed) but I haven't had any pain. I am not taking the codene any more and sticking to the 600mg of ibuprofen. My husband just made me some really disgusting microwave eggs, but at least I'm sticking to plan. I'm a little worried about lunch and dinner. I may have to send him out for a salad. The guy tries, but he is definately not a cook. The hard part about all of this is feeling so confined. I usually don't sit down much. Oh well, I'm catching up on my movies.

On the positive side- My scale broke the other day. By the time I get this cast off and buy a new scale, I may in onederland. Wouldn't that be a cool reward after all this trouble?

OUCH I hoipe you heal up fast. Instead of sitting you could kneel on the broke ankle leg in the computer chair, and walk with the other leg for some exercise. Onceyou get up on your crutches you will be getting a great upper body workout! Make sure you don't hang from your opits on them or you will be one raw sore lady in a few hours.

I am actually using the computer chair quit a bit. It is much easier ride to the bathroom than the crutches. My thighs are sore from all of the scooting around. So I guess I'm still getting a workout. LOL

Crutches do hurt! My mother brought me some but they are missing the cushion part on the top. Hopefully I will only need them for a couple of days. When I see the doctor on Tuesday they said I would either get an air cast or a walking cast. I can't wait. BTW, my husband did a good job with lunch and dinner. He just made me a brat, 1/2 chicken breast, aspargus, tomatoe, and cottage cheese. It was very good. Thank God for the grill. Thank you again for all of the good wishes.

What a wonderful husband you have!

Good luck with the change on Tuesday. You might do a search regarding air casts vs walking casts. My husband had an air cast for a bad sprain, came home and put on his lace-up boots instead. He said that gave him a lot more support than the air cast did, but he also had cracked ribs so crutches hurt worse than not using them.

I'm glad to hear it's not hurting much. Enjoy the movies and some time with your family this weekend. Tell them this means you're queen of the house and they are the servants.
