  • NO Survivors

As alot of you know I live in Humble,Texas just a hop skip and jump away from Houston. I have watched the bus loads come here to try and gather some meaning to this crazy mess. The highways are covered in Louisiana plates. There was a lady walking around with a baby in a grocery buggy he may have been two he looked dead he has blisters on his head and lips and was so ill he was just looking like a rag doll. His Mom was begging for someone to take him in so he could get the help he needed. She was willing to sacrifice her parental rights just to get the baby help. The temprature here is in the 90s. You see if the refugees got out and came here on their own they are being turned away. FEMA and RED Cross have a lot to learn still. There are so many scam artist and theives we are told not to go downtown on our own. It is like Houston has turned into a refugee camp. Mind you we already have our homeless and mentally ill that are placed on the streets from mental hospitals. Gee our jails are located in Downtown Houston (just blocks away from the George R. Brown) and when they are released they are on the streets too by the way Harris County jail releases their prisoners between 1 and 4 AM so you must use caution. So now if you are downtown trying to help you need to be extremely careful. There were some of the displaced people at church Sunday and they asked us not to look down on them because of the way some NO residents were being on TV. They were there to praise God! Even though they had nothing but one suit of clothes each they were Thanking God! Talk about faith! They never pointed the blame in any direction they said it was a test and those that grew from this were the survivors. But did we forget Mississippi and other towns were hit too ??? Who is helping them?

all the states hit by the storm are receiving aide but the pics are more dramtic in NO so the press is there. Maybe the aid should be being sewnt to the neighboring states taking the folk in though.

We here in my area are sending police, helcopters, food, baby supplies, RC workers, doctors and because the Governor of TN said open the schools immediately to all thousands of family are arriving. The RC ask our area stations that were collecting food and supplies to pleasxe keep it here as 200 families are arriving tomorrow and they have more food then they have places to store it for the victims right now. Money however is still being accepted for going there.

What you are seeing about giving up the kids in this time is notunique as I just got called about fostering some kids from the storm. We all need to do what we can to help these folk.

Here in my town we're getting up to 500 folks, and the community center has been set up for them temporarily...lots of folks here are volunteering their homes to take them in. We've donated money (ds gave them his allowance), and my mom and I have collected a bunch of clothing and water bottles and have taken them down...

Diva, it's nice to see you again!!!!!

We're actually getting them as far north as West Virginia. I manage a private ambulance service in WV and we were called at 5:45 am Sunday morning to go out to the airport to pick up victims of Katrina and take them to our regional hospitals.

We are expecting anywhere from 500 to 2,000 more of them today, to be sent to various cities in our state.

2000 evacuees are being flown up here to Washington State.
They are coming into McChord AFB and will be housed at Ft. Lewis.

I bet there will be people sent to every state.

Here in Portland they're setting up to be able to take 1,000 evacuees at a closed high school. It seems every state is taking people in.

2500 coming here to Massachusetts to the Otis AFB down near Cape Cod. Yep, folks are being diverted all over to get them help. It's wonderful that so many are opening their hearts and homes and such to help.

We just put up a bunch of folks from Jackson Mississippi here in Davenport Ia. The town converted college dorms into senior citizen housing and these folks are getting apartments to live in. I'm not sure of the particulars, or how many to an apt but it is offered free for up to 6 mo to a year I believe.
