  • Big Time Vent

You guys know me...I try to always stay positive and help everyone. But something has happened that has really TICKED me off. I am in charge of a conference. I ordered the meals months ago. I ordered a breakfast/luncheon buffett that would last throughout the day. It had a variety of pastries, muffins, cookies, smoothies, croissants, meats, cheeses, veggies w/dips, chips, pretzels, popcorn and variety of fresh fruits and drinks. I thought this would be good because last year people complained that they were hungry throughout the day. This buffet would last from 8am-4pm. At night, we have a huge banquet and I always order a tremendous amount of food and it is a big feast. So, I thought this would allow everyone a chance to get something to eat.

I've been letting others take care of the arrangements this past month while I was recuperating from surgery. I already had most of the stuff done, so I was letting them take care of any last minute things that took place. WELLLLLLLL, they have disappointed me big time. I now find out they changed the menu to a NON ATKINS FRIENDLY meal at lunch. Not that I am going to be tempted to cheat, cause I will make do with what I have to, but it was a comment that was made to me. When I questioned it, I was told by someone who I never expected to hear anything like this from -- "Well, not everyone is on a DIET." I didn't consider my selection to be a DIET meal. I thought that it would accomodate everyone. After all, I couldn't even eat most of the stuff, except some of the veggies, fruits and the meats/cheese without the buns.

Anyways, it is just the attitude that I was spoken to that TICKED me off. I don't flaunt my way of eating on anyone. I do what I need to do, pick and choose from the menu .. and avoid what is there that I can't eat. I never complain about it. I just think that this was something that was done to try to jeopardize my WOE. I don't think it was a necessary thing that needed to be done. I'll just be sure to pack some friendly foods in my suitcase.

OK, I'm done venting. I just needed to get this off my breast today. Thanks

    UGH! How totally frustrating.

Awesome response: Yeah, you're not all on a diet. That's why you aren't HOT like me!

    Hang in there!

They are YOUR employees when you hire them.

I would be more than livid.

I would tell them that unless they rectify the situation immediately through either kicking me some moneys back or fixing ther menu, I will :Report them immediately and complain to the Better Business Bureau.

They broke their contract. You, as the boss, have the right to drag them through heck for what they did. It is unconscionable, and they could kill someone who suffers from diabetes with their cavalier attitudes.

          Becky,

That totally sucks. My initial response would be to wait until an internal meeting or something where the person was invited and order food they can't eat, due to allergies or whatever, though I realize this is not a reality in the business world. I am assuming it's too late to change the menu back at this point? Maybe what the person who was taking care of things while you were out should have realized that there are a lot of folks who *DO* eat Atkins style. I have worked at drug companies for years, we have conferences, meetings, etc. all the time. When we were organizing them, we always made sure there were options for people on Atkins, not just for me, but a lot of the doctors who were attending also followed this way of eating. You could always see if the restaurant at the conference center could bring you a separate meal (yes, exclusion is always fun) or order room service ahead of time or the like. A lot of the meeting planners at these places will do pretty much whatever you ask with a smile, they're used to dealing with everything. Some people just don't realize the time and effort that you put in to ensure everybody is happy not just a couple people.

          Just my 50 cents.

            Re: Big Time Vent

The fact they didn't do what they were expected to do would be enough to tick anyone off. The comment about being on a "diet" was waaaay out of line. Could that person maybe be secretly jealous of what you've accomplished? Also, to change what you listed doesn't make sense...you had an awesome line up there.

              Re: Big Time Vent

Thanks everyone. I appreciate your comments and I feel better. There has been a lot of problems this year. I have stuck it out and resolved everything. The person who made the comment and who changed the order will take over as the president Saturday night at the final Banquet. I've gone over it in my mind as to why in the world she would do this and the only thing that makes sense is that she belittled me to make herself look good. She sent an email to those attending that the president (me) had goofed up on the menu and she had to "fix" it. I think this is her way of coming in as the new president as a HERO. lolol

The more I think about it, the more I am getting over it. I have made a few copies of the original menu and if anything is said, I'm just going to show it to whoever is upset. That will not be accusing anyone ...just justifying that I didn't do what the email said. As for the menu, I can handle it. I will accept her choice and I will pick/choose what I can eat off of it - as I am used to doing since starting this WOE. I won't allow foods to control me or my emotions. Its only food. Right?

Glad my rein as president is over this weekend. I have been under a lot of stress the past year with health and family and the 'problems' that I've already worked through with these people. But, you know me, I vent here and keep a smile around 'them' so they don't know they've upset me.

I appreciate all your understanding. It makes it easier to cope with.

I agree with Bug, you had an awesome line up that had something for everyone.....this person needs to have her butt kicked, have the menu switched back and let her know in no uncertain terms that "YOU" are the president here and that it was not "HER" place to change anything you had already approved.
I too think this person is jealous of your success, she also sounds terminally stupid....doesn't she know that Atkins is NOT a DIET, its a WAY OF LIFE! ARGH!!!!

                          Re: Big Time Vent

It has mostly pasta dishes and a variety of breads. They have a few types of cakes and pudding desserts. I checked and they have a side salad that comes with the meal. The lady said I can get a salad instead of the pasta. I told her I had dietary restrictions that would not allow me to eat pasta dishes. So, I am good to go.

Some people will just never be considerate of others regardless of how well you treat them. Sorry they stabbed you in the back. Maybe next year you should let them deal with it all from the get go. Taking care of the whole ball of wax let them see just what goes into the ENTIRE event. Also, sounds like from their choices they were interested in saving cash not pleasing the masses. People notice that sort of thing, scimping isn't usually the best way to go in business.

Dream...what you had listed is much more appealing to people not on a special way of eating. For the life of me I can't figure out why they changed it. I think brats is right. I know that if I wasn't on Atkins and heard what the menu got changed to I would be none too pleased.
