  • Showing off my numbers!

    I got my latest bloodwork results at my doctor's visit yesterday. I got a copy of my last 3 results since starting Atkins 18 months ago.

    If anyone doubts that the Atkins WOE is bad for your cholesterol, etc., I've got numbers to prove them otherwise. Now some of these could also be due to getting my thyroid adjusted, but even when my thyroid was stablized pre-Atkins, my cholesterol was still around 190 and bp was 130/80ish. I know I have good genetics to thank for my low cholesterol, but I have made it even better with Atkins:

    (Pre-Atkins 2/2004 -> 10/2004 -> Now 9/2005)
    Cholesterol: 182 -> 152 -> 158
    LDL: 108 -> 92 -> 94
    HDL: 63 -> 42 -> 52
    Blood Pressure: 141/90 -> 112/80 -> 102/70
    Triglycerides: - 75 -> 63 -> 59
    Thyroid TSH: *13.4 -> 7.3 -> 0.371 (this is due to corrections to my thyroid meds, should be 0.1-3.0)

    All of these are now in the good/optimal/recommended ranges.

    * This is from being off thyroid meds for a few months at least. NEVER EVER do this, god it was bad.

    My diet (nuts/berries/spirits rungs of OWL) consists of eggs, bacon, beef (burgers, steak), chicken, veggies, salad, almonds, cheese (small amounts), ranch dressing or oil/vinegar, mayo/ketchup, salsa, berries+whip cream occasionally, wine/low carb beer occasionally, water or unsweet tea with Splenda.

    I take the following supplements: Multivitamin, Calcium/Magnesium, Malic Acid, B Complex, Melatonin, L-Carnitine, Chromium Piconolate, CoQ10. I know it seems alot, but they are for fibromyalgia and weight loss and really do make a difference. I've been trying to take flax seed supplements and might consider getting some to add to salads, etc. to help with Omega-3/6.

    I exercise 2x a week (slowly ramping up to more, takes time with fibro) of 25 mins treadmill, 1 hour weight training, and 1 day of treadmill 25 mins.

    The weight loss etc, feels good, but having the actual numbers to back up what a difference you've made for your health is even better.

    WAY TO GO, Bizzlekitty! Your doctor has to be pretty darned proud of you!!!! As for vits, I take over 12 pills a day, so that looks like you're taking less than me. Vitanutrients are important on this WOE!

    Way to go on the exercise. You are an Atkins success story!

      Congratulations! These are the kind of numbers I LOVE to see - a lot of naysayers don't put much stock in the report from the scale, but medical test results don't lie! So to all those naysayers, I say this: HAH! I told you so.

            That is so awesome! You are doing such a fantastic job!! I kind of wish I had some pre-atkins numbers to work with too. The only number I had was when I used my mother's diabetes blood sugar tester and found out I had a really high number (I forget what it was - 150? Something like that), back in april. One of the reasons I started atkins was because I found out how high my blood sugar was.

            2 months into atkins, she tested me again and I was in the 90's (if i'm remembering right). I had lower blood sugar then my skinny sister (who also took it out of curiosity), I was so proud .

                Re: Showing off my numbers!

                Thanks all. I have many of you here to thank for the inspiration and motivation to keep going. I wouldn't have stuck it out if it hadn't been for ADBB and the many people here that taught me how to do things right, who posted pictures and their progress and their ups and downs too.

                {{{{{{{{{{{{{{ hugs to all of ya }}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

                If you would have told me 2 years ago that I could lose 50+ lbs, I would have thought them nuts. That I would stop eating bread, pasta and potatoes?? Stop drinking diet Coke? Ridiciulous! (Ok, I confess, I have a little taste of potatoes every now then, but that's all it is and that's enough).

                If only I could go back 12 or so years and have taught myself Atkins....

                I also went and got new jeans yesterday, down one size from my old ones since they were waaaay baggy. Several people thus noticed today I was losing weight. Helps to have clothes that fit! Maybe my chiropractor will stop making fun of me now! For another month or two at least....

                  Good job BizzleKitty at being another success story of health we can point to. Those numbers are great and simply prove the healthful nature of the diet, and that it can indeed transform someone's life. Congrats!
