  • Does this happen to anyone besides me?

Does anyone have a problem with certain food textures after a while on Atkins? Not the taste, but texture. Some things I normally love, just won't go down. I like the taste but can't get past the texture of it. Then after a while it changes and I can eat it again but not something else.

The one food I have never had a problem with taste or texture wise is green beans. This has happened to me every time I've been on this WOL. Today it was melted cheese. I love Muenster Cheese melted in a bowl. It reminds me of pizza I think. I have eaten this since I was a kid. Today at lunch I dug in with gusto only to get a few forkfuls down and then my mouth started rebelling at the texture.

Is it just me? Am I truly as strange as my husband says I am?

that happens to me just because of the fat, I think. I had a salad with hard boiled eggs, cheese, and bacon and I just felt like I needed to throw it up becuase it was just too much fat for me all at once. It tasted good, but it was really hard to swallow!

Textures that make me want to yak:

      pork rinds
      egg whites
      steak fat

I think Andrea has a good point: too much fat in one sitting can really be a bit much. And if the cheese has a snot consistency and you have a cold, it could also trigger your gag reflex.

Pork rinds *shudder* I never could eat those. I like things with tomato sauce but for the life of me I can't stand the texture of a raw tomato. As for the Atkins side of things...no...I can't say that anything has gotten to me. Usually if I don't like the texture of a food it's something I won't eat again anyway.

I'm with Bugaboo. There are foods that I never ate because of texture...like...most of the winter squashes (not spaghetti!)...ughhh....No problem with pork rinds though!

I don't have any texture issues with any foods on the plan. But I have to tell you that after 6 months of not touching bad foods, I cannot eat pasta anymore. I was checking to see if my daughter's mac n cheese was flavored correctly and the pasta's texture reminded me of glue in my mouth.

Needless to say, I spit it directly out and haven't been lured into checking it again. My wife cracked the heck up and told me that I turned a lovely shade of green when I took that bite.

Thanks, Dr. Atkins. Never thought I would see the day when I wasn't a total slave to pasta.

Wouldn't that be marvelous?! The day I am no longer addicted to cookies, fig newtons, pasta roni, and chocolate! (hot chocolate with marshmellows, in particular!)

Textures that I LOVE (and also a big reason why I'm on Atkins)
                Mashed Potatoes
                Pudding
                Ice Cream and shakes
                peaches

I LOVE foods that are creamy and easy to eat.

Hmmm...my meat and veggies aren't quite the same : (

LOL, I'd love to see that day here!!! Chocote is such a trigger food for me!

If I've eaten something in particular for a while I'll wake up one day and know that if I attempt to eat it I'll be sick. I never thought about texture or fat content - just attributed it to "too much of a good thing." Eggs in any form right now are nauseating. And melted mozarella. Just can't do it!

Any kind of meat fat or chicken skin makes me gag. I've been like that since I was a kid and have always trimmed it all off. The only exception is bacon, but that needs to be really crisp or I can't eat that either.

Maybe my problem is too much of a good thing. I tend to eat the same things for breakfast. I really need to investigate the recipies section and get some good breakfast ideas. That's my hardest meal. Lunch and dinner I can eat just about anything, but breakfast stops me in my tracks!

Haha I am so much better when I eat the same things. I am a creature of habit, I guess, but I find that I end up with more cravings if I vary what I eat too much. I did stop eating tuna for a bit (because of the too much of a good thing stuff), but it didn't take long before I realized that I crave tuna almost everyday if I don't have it for lunch.

For me its tuna and fish. I can't make myself eat it. If I smell it even, I get sick. When I first started this diet once a week I would have fried tuna fritatta with mushrooms and melted mozzerella. Now GAG at the thought. The only kind of affordable seafood I can stomach right now is shrimp.
