  • Fitday - Calories Burned

I checked out Fitday for the first time and it is a pretty nice tool. For yesterday I consumed 1428 calories and burned 2888. A 1460 calorie difference.

My questions is what does 1460 calories roughly translate into weight wise? My last recollection is that 1 pound was 3500 calories, but it has been awhile...

OK. FWIW, I don't pay a lot of attention to fit day BMR. Use this instead. It accounts for more differences in our bodies, activity levels and metabolisms.

    http://www.dallasdietitian.com/resources/calcalc.htm

For every 3500 calories ingested or burned, there is a loss or a gain of a pound (as you stated).

Granted, on Atkins, the body has a harder time processing protein and fat (which is why it stays in the stomach longer, thereby keeping us full longer), so it takes more calories to process than your average Joe Schmoe American Diet. So the person eating 1500 on Weight Watchers is burning less calories than the same person eating 1500 on Atkins.

That said, if you sho a general deficit of 1460 calories a day, in a perfect vacuum, you should be losing roughly 2.4 pounds per week. This does not, however, account for water retention and stalls, which do occur based primarily on the tissues holding water to try and keep the body from losing too quickly, and based on other factors, such as menstruation, hormonal changes, muscle growth due to exercise, and other factors and variables.
