  • #1 Question I HATE to hear--Pet Peeve

Alright, I just have to VENT today...While minding my own business at the bus stop my neighbor asks if I'm still "doing your diet"? Then my MIL calls to wish me a HB and spends 10 min. on a rant on the dangers of Atkins. Another friend asked me Tuesday, "Have you lost any more weight?" Some days it doesn't bother me, other days (like today)...Ya know? What great comments have you put in your repertoire as responses...?

"Oh are you still doing your (that) DIET???" said with the utmost sarcasm/fear/loathing (fill in your favorite emotional tone)...etc... "You know you'll (insert the danger du jour) if you keep doing that...."

Yep I tell them, it's for life. I'm not having sugar or flour...I'm planning on staying with this meal plan all the time.

"C'mon, you can have just one..."

No I can't, I will break out in FAT! It's against DR's orders! It's not on my eating plan.

"Gee, how much weight have you lost" "Have you lost any more weight?"

My daughter, I've lost the equivalent of my 10 year old. No, no more, just living well and enjoying.

I'm looking for more "snappy" comebacks for these and more. So post your pet peeve question and your great comeback.

It's been nearly 2 years on this WOE for me and folks STILL want to know when I'll go back to "regular" eating!

While I'm not loosing now (I need to go back to a clean induction again, SOON!) I'm continuing to stick with the program and learning about OWL (what works and what doesn't work for me).

I find it so frustrating that people accept that you are on Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig or even having "the surgery" with no reservations, but you mention the word Atkins and people act like you are insane. We went to my brother-in-law's house a week or so ago and he made taco salad. I thought, great, I can eat that...until I tasted it and he admitted he had added a T. of sugar to make it taste better and didn't think I would notice. WHAT! He did it on purpose! I was so mad! I went right to the local store and bought pork rinds, cheese and refused to eat anything else he prepared.

      Happy Birthday, Kathy!

Yesterday I spent an hour of time trying to educate someone who swears WW is healthier than Atkins that Atkins is not what people portray it as. I spent another hour emailing people at a nutrition site that made the same claims as the person who told me WW was dangerous. I even took the time to supply both debates with a menu showing that WW is almost the exact-same as Atkins! I either received no response regarding this very (I think) eye-opening revelation, or it was ignored out-right as it is so widely-assumed that the whole of this diet is the 14-day induction period.

When someone says to me that all I eat is meat, I tell them that I eat between 3-7 cups of vegetables per day and ask them how many they eat. That about ends the conversation right there.

      You continue to be strong! You know who the educated eater is. {{{Kat}}}

I always love the comment "How can you that much meat?"

My response is always that I eat the same amount I always have. I just don't eat the potatoe, bread, or rice that I ate with it before. People usually don't say anything more about it. I usually add in that I learned to love vegetables and actually eat about 4-5 cups a day now. I used to eat about 1 cup per day before, if that.

          Happy Happy Birthday to you!!!!!

I don't think the redicule will ever end. There are people out there who are just plain as my husband and I like to say "SOS" (Stuck on Stupid). We can't educate anyone who refuses to change their mind or have an open mind about something. I've learned to accept that. Just as they can't change my mind that I am happier, healthier and enjoying life more now than I ever did before Atkins came into my life.

I also get tired of hearing it, but it doesn't bother me anymore. I know Atkins works and I will live by the Atkins plan the rest of my life -- but there are many who still think of it as a temperary diet that we will go off of once we get to goal. I try to explain that it is a CHANGE of life, not a quick fix.

Enjoy your birthday Cathy and know that we love you and understand your WOE even if others refuse to accept that we are feeling better everyday in everyway. (They are just jealous)

Happy Birthday Kathy! Just keep remembering that you're doing this for yourself, and nothing you do or say will change peoples opinions about Atkins, regardless of your success. The most important factor is that YOU know it is a healthy WOE, and you're living proof of that!!

              Cleo,

It's even better when a group from work does WW together like here then asks me if I want to join (even though they know I eat this way). I say no thanks, I'll keep with what works for me. So now it's the next round of signing up to pay $144 for 12 weeks of meetings, the total the group has lost is 157 pounds... with about 30 people, it averages around 5 lbs a person in 3 months? ****, I can top that in 2 weeks (not stalling or screwing around with weights of course)!!
