  • Update on Halloween party

I've been very excited this week as I was invited to my first party in years. It was a Halloween party. The party was at the house of a lady I work with. Her and and her husband... have been on/off the Atkins wagon this year a few times. They have been doing Atkins the past month and filled with excitement over quite a bit of weightloss. (Him 22 pounds, her 17)

Anyways, I took my low-carb food, plus they had 'make your own sandwiches'. I made my sandwich with just meat/cheese/lettuce. I saw them eating chips and desserts, but I didn't say anything.

After a while, they came over and told me that they feel like I am the 'Atkin's Police'...because they feel guilty for eating unacceptable foods. In a way, it is funny that they feel that way but in another way, I don't want people to not invite to their activities because they are going to cheat. What a strange situation to be in.

As I told them...I am only responsible for myself, I don't judge others by what they decide to do or not do.

It sounds like everything went very well! Great job, Becky!

We went to a party on Saturday and the only beverage there was a high-fructose-concoction, so I was glad I had brought my own. I didn't eat anything. There were no veggies--anywhere! I went home and ate legally afterwards, but I was shocked. This was a karate studio and the food was nowhere near healthy in any way, shape or form. I mean, throw some tofu out there or something!

It was no no wonder Elvira was falling out of her costume. Too many cookies.

dreamof145 - I'm sure you would feel uncomfortable if they were viewing you as the "Atkins Police". Hopefully that view from others shouldn't affect you being invited to parties or not. People should know that we are just trying to improve our lives and although we care for our friends and family, it is up to them and can only be up to them to change, and we are not in a position to judge them.

        Dreamof...

I had something similar happen when we ate at my brother-in-law's house. He is very sensitive and I could not eat anything he cooked for dinner the other night. I mean, I wanted to eat the cornish hen, but he put brown sugar and pineapple juice on them and the rest were mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and green beans (he adds sugar to make them better). He was actually MAD at me because I would not break my diet to eat. I just told him it was nothing personal and I am trying to get healthy so I can make him an uncle so he needed to get off my back!
