  • My "discussion" with my sister... THE RANT!

    Hello Low-Carb buddies...

I think you all might enjoy this little discussion I got into with my sister this evening. She is the anorexic one in our family and I am the fat one so imagine our conversations.

Anyway, she has decided that the human body was meant to be vegetarian because in the Bible it says in Genesis that God told Adam and Eve to eat from any tree and it was not until after the flood that people ate meat. PLEASE NOTE: NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE'S RELIGION HERE. READ ON TO SEE HER LOGIC AT WORK AS THAT IS THE POINT...

So, she is now a vegetarian. However, she made vegetarian soup and called me to ask me when to add in macaroni. Oh, well...the human body wasn't made to eat meat that can be roasted over an open fire, but we were meant to have processed flour in the shape of little spirals?!? Hello! Can anyone say LOGIC here!

Anyway, that is her latest rant against Atkins. Oh, she also mentioned that corn oil is way better for me than olive oil despite what all the books say and that margarine is better for me than butter.

Yep, I can't wait to see her at Thanksgiving. BTW, she has seen my before and current photos and said it was the dress making me look that big in the wedding and she can't tell a difference. All the rest of the family is on one form of low-carb (me at Atkins and the rest on South Beach) and she is going to be a vegetarian. Should be fun! Anyone want to video tape the fight that will surely ensue?

All I have to say is... There's one in every family!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm best friends with one of my sisters, and my other sister and I fight like cats and dogs!!! (I love her and hate her!) After years of bickering and bickering, now I just let her have her say and don't argue with it. She has her "opinion" and I know what's right and realize whatever I say won't change her mind

SHe's just jealous because you get to eat - and she doesn't . You would still be fat even if you were a skeleton.

I do believe she is right about the people being vegetarian before the flood as a possibility. However, I'm sure God knew what was best for Noah and the rest of the human family when he gave the blessing to eat meat - officially - and had not taken that away.

Re: My "discussion" with my sister... THE RANT!

I feel for you. I had a sister who preached about being vegan and ate vegan till she was doing her masters theises in a country without good quality vegan proteins availible and the doc she saw after she became ill told her she was malnurished and anemic and would die if she didn't eat meat. Been a meat eater ever since. Seems when faced with death for her beliefs she caved.

Anyway, she has decided that the human body was meant to be vegetarian because in the Bible it says in Genesis that God told Adam and Eve to eat from any tree and it was not until after the flood that people ate meat.
I can see the sermon in there about vegatarian eating causing people to act so vile God had to destroy them all from some carnivore out there.

Well, I have no problem with the vegetarian part, but the whole I can't eat meat, but I can eat macaroni and rice is just dumb to me.

Just politely say, "I am glad that you have found something that works for you. I'm sure all the coat hangers in the closet must be envious."

                  Kidding!

I'd really say, "I'm so glad that you have found what works for you! I have found what really works for me. We'll just have to agree to disagree on this issue."

                  Smile.

                  Hug.

And everytime she says anything, give her the same exact line, "We'll have to agree to disagree". Smile.

                    Cleo,

Oh, I really don't mind what she eats. It doesn't bother me one bit and I never advise her on her *diet* plan (sorry, by binging/purging and not eating is not a plan). However, I wish she would stop sending me the emails telling how wrong I am. For goodness sakes, she graduated with a double major in biology and chemistry. You would think she would know sugar is bad for a diabetic. DUH! "We will have to agree to disagree"...la la la...I shall repeat this throughout Thanksgiving. I hate to tell her, by there is no way in heck my Mom is going to make a tofu turkey so she might be hungry.

                      Oh! Emails! Sorry.

I'd just ignore all the dietary comments and say things like, "Did you know that my cat has no fleas?..." and then go on about things that have nothing to do with anything she's written. She'll get the hint. Make with the convo you want to have and eliminate what you don't need. The powers is yours!

The best thing you can do, Deb, is show her with your actions that you made the right decission. You are doing just that. You progress is evident and if she can't see it, it is her choice not to see it.
I think you are doing a great job with your WOE.
