Here's a learning game we can play. I used to be the Queen of excuses when it came to losing weight. I could never stay on a diet because of this and that. Lets list things that we use for excuses and then put solutions that knock those excuses out of the water!
After holiday shopping a friend asks you to go have a bite to eat at a restaurant. You are afraid because it might not be Atkins Friendly.
(a) You can go and order salad, fish, chicken or specified low-carb meal that you've asked ahead what the ingredients are and are sure it is safe for you to eat. All you have to say to the waitress is that you are on a special diet. They are always willing to assist.
or another solution
(b) You can open your purse and pull out your own list of acceptable places to eat that you have already researched and are sure it is ATKINS FRIENDLY and suggest you go there.
---------------------------------------------
You are going to your Great Aunt's house for dinner. They ask you to make a pumpkin pie.
(a) You can make a pumpkin pie (their way) and then make your own dessert that is Atkins Friendly. When you show up, just say, I also wanted to share another dessert with you, so I brought it along too. (How can they be mad if you bring two desserts instead of one?)
---------------------------------------------
You plan to go for a walk after work, but a friend asks you to go shopping with her instead. Now that will ruin your plans to take that walk tonight.
(a) After you shop a while, ask your friend to go to the mall and do some walking around window-shopping. This is also a good way to get some exercise in when you don't have a treadmill and the weather is bad outside.
-----------------------------------------------
I've had church friends bring over candies, cookies and cakes as a token of goodwill during the holidays. (Some people also hear you are watching your weight -- so they test you by bringing goodies)
(a) Thank them graciously and then either give it to other members of family who are not following Atkins -- or -- wrap it, label it and freeze it for times when you need a dessert in a hurry for people coming over who don't want an Atkins dessert)
(b) Throw it away. Yep. I've done this. They don't know, so their feelings aren't hurt and I haven't jeopardized my plan. (You gotta do what you gotta do, right? Its all up to you!)
--------------------------------------------
I have a million more excuses, but I'd like to hear some from others...
I'm sure if we give people some solutions to excuses that will pop up, they can be better prepared to succeed over the holiday season.
