That's a brilliant idea! I've been pondering what to do with my dress, it'd take up half a closet if I kept it, but I don't know if I can bring myself to sell it. Maybe I'll keep it around for our ceremony pics, part II.

It's either that, or save for like a 5 year vow renewal... which is another thing I thought about... granted, it's 3 years away, but it'll take me 1.5-2 years to get all the weight gone and then make sure I hold it, so maybe that's not so bad.

        Re: What are your motivations?

Well, originally, my motivation was to be able to attend my highschool reunion with my head held high and proud of who I am and what I look like. I was thin in highschool. I didn't want to show up to my ten year reunion and be the person who everyone whispered about "Wow, have you seen Katie? I can't believe how fat she's gotten!" I wanted to be the person who everyone whispered about, "Wow, have you seen Katie? She looks AMAZING! I can't believe she's had five kids since we graduated from highschool and she looks like THAT!!!" It's only been a month in and my motivation has changed DRASTICALLY! I no longer have a "goal" I want to achieve. Getting down to a certain size doesn't matter anymore. I just want to be able to MOVE. I took my kids to the park the other day. Usually, I use the baby (I pretty much always have a baby...five kids ages 7 and under pretty much always leaves you with a baby lol) as an excuse to just sit on a blanket on the grass while my kids play. However, I was able to (and WANTED to) go out and PLAY with my kids. I ran after them. I pushed them on the swings. I chased them up the jungle gym. I can't remember the last time I actually had the energy to play with my kids at the park. That's always been my husband's job. This time though, he sat on the blanket with the baby I came home and just cried. That one little trip to the park made me realize how much I've been missing out on with my kids because of my weight and how much of their mom they've been missing out on. I don't want to sit on the blanket anymore.

I wasn't able to lose as much as I wanted to, but it felt great to lose what I did. Man, those wedding dresses are brutal. I still think it's completely unfair that the guys get to hide behind nice flattering black tuxes and we get wrapped up in a white sausage casing!
LOL - very true!! Do you have any of your wedding photos uploaded to the web somewhere? I'd love to see them!!

It's nice to read what motivates others!

For me, right now, I am in a secret challenge with a buddy at the board and it keeps me going. I want to kick his butt.

Hi Mary-chan! I have a few pics uploaded from our wedding day. Here's a link:

                share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=9AZt2zlm3bsbU

The first few are previews we got from our photographer, and the rest are amateur shots from guests. We got married overlooking the Puget Sound in Seattle, it was such a perfect day!

Feel free to PM me if you ever want to talk wedding stuff - I'm in planning withdrawal!

Puget sound is so beautiful, what a wonderful place for a wedding! I would love to hear more details about your wedding so I better PM you instead of hijacking this thread lol.

Thanks so much ladies! Yes, I don't want to hijack either, but suffice to say the wedding was a big motivator for me, and now it's just getting to where I feel great about myself and ready to tackle the rest of life's challenges.

                              Re: What are your motivations?

I hate to say this, but I have a friend who is a few years older than me and her life is spiraling out of control. Her weight is one of those things spiraling. We were both in Godspell together and she had to drop out because she couldn't take the high level of physicality required to perform properly in a show written for 20 year olds. A few friends who are well versed in social work and I were talking about an intervention with her as we are so worried about her.

Sometimes I feel like she is chasing me, not HER per se, but the sedentary idea of old fat matronhood.

SO I guess other than all of the above (which you all have so wisely stated) I am motivated by fear of falling into schlubhood.

                                Re: What are your motivations?

I can't point to one thing in particular that motivates me; there are so many things. Allow me to share a few.

First and foremost I guess is the slow return of my independence. I have not spoken to anyone here as big as I was, but a few of the larger of the 'super heavyweights' can understand what it is like to not be able to move from one area of the house to the other without huffing and puffing for 10 minutes afterwards. Returning to that time when everything wasn't so tiring is a huge motivation for me.

Secondly, I would have to say my desire to be around for my loved ones is one of my strongest motivations. I want to be around until I am an old, old man, and that isn't going to happen unless I do everything I can to improve the condition of my body.

Finally, I am motivated each and every time I visit ADBB. This little corner of the net has become so important to me; I can honestly say this road would feel darn near impossible to travel without the motivation and support I receive from everyone here.
