  • Planning for Holiday Challenges !

Well today the holiday challenges start in full swing. We have 3 parties today, a brunch, a drop-in for a friend who is moving to Florida, and a Chanukah dinner tonight. For the brunch I am bringing some fresh out of the oven Raspberry Flax Muffins, for the drop-in, some L.C. desserts, and for the dinner, I will just adlib it as it is a buffet. I know I will be avoiding those yummy potatoe latkes(pancakes) which I usually devour at a rapid pace. I feel that I am in control, already did a one hour workout, and I'm ready to get going. How will you handle your holiday challenges? PLAN! PLAN! PLAN!

I'm going to my DD house for three days so I will bring my standard low carb foods with me. For christmas day I will cook a big batch of garlic prawns to nibble on and bring unsalted nuts. I've learned that I can't handle any kind of sweets even those made with splenda so I'm going to bring a small round of brie and melt it for dessert. For dinner I will have lobster with butter and brussel sprouts. I did this last year and it worked really well. I did not feel deprived and stayed out of all the high carb side dishes.

We had a Christmas party last weekend and I took the veggie tray. That way I knew that I had veggies to go with meats they were having. My mother surprised me and made me two veggie side dishes that I could have. One was a spinach casserole, and the other was green beans and bacon. Yummy!

We are having prime rib, spinach casserole, flax muffins, and more prime rib!!!! There will be other dishes, but this is what I'm having. I am also making myself a cheesecake for dessert.

I have been trying to drink more water and not eat at night. Those are my main goals right now.

I am very thankful, this year everyone coming to our christmas party is eating low-carb (atkins & south beach etc).

The problem is, on thanksgiving we had low-carb cheesecake.. It was "onnly 4 carbs" so I had a piece.. then of course I just got hungrier and hungrier and hungrier and totally binged on the low-carb stuff. I am still suffering because of it!!

My goal for this christmas, just to eat the things actually allowed on induction and none of that low-carb artificial stuff!! I just can't handle it!

          First mini-goal: 187 by thanksgiving
Second mini-goal: 181 by Xmas trip to see in-laws in LA, size 14's!

Re: Planning for Holiday Challenges !

My family is having Christmas dinner with an Aunt who lives here in Jacksonville. Today, she totally shocked me by calling ahead to get a menu of things she could cook so that I would not be on the 'outside looking in'. So, needless to say, I will be eating well and legal this holiday season.

One side note: I will have to say that it has been incredibly hard not to have all the sweets we often associate with this season. My family typically cooks fudge and date loaf for Christmas snacking, and I really miss doing this. The fortunate thing is that I have not craved the desserts, but I have craved making them with my family. These carb laden traditions were passed down from my great grandparents to my grandparents to my parents and now to my sister and me.

              Hi Bran,

I hear you on the high carb traditions. But you know we can make new traditions. Plus I can promise you that the longer you are off the sugar the easier it will be. I'm about 1 month sugar free and I can hendle being around sugar a lot better now. But like Mary-Chen, I have to stay away from all sweets, high carb and low carb. Then my sugar demon falls asleep and stops bothering me so much.

Ok, I'm back to the kitchen again! Friday dinner for 7, all the kids will be home. Already started cooking. Eggplant Parmesan, roast in the crock pot, salad, turnip fries, and some rice for the kids. We'll be making some potatoe latkes for our Christmakah party, next weekend, about 200 of them, not for me though, making some zucchini latkes instead. Saturday night we're out to dh's cousins for dinner, and I'm bringing some lc cheesecake- Chocolate/Kahluha. Then Christmas day, we are having 10 over for brunch. DH is making pancakes, omelets, bacon, lc bread, fresh fruit, hashbrowns for them. Christmas day eve, we're off to DH's sister's for the family do. I'm bringing a huge salad, and lc dessert. Wow, that's a lot of food, but I'm planning for it! Gonna make sure I workout in the early morn, to make sure I get it in.

Do you mind posting the recipe for this? My mouth watered just reading the words. I have a low carb cheesecake that I like, but I haven't had a chocolate one.

I use the basic lc cheese cake recipe, but I add in the sugar free Kahluha syrup and Fry's chocolate, what a wonderful taste!

You are so right 2Big. Traditions start with families, whether they are newly started, or merged families. And it's so much fun to have yearly traditions to look forward to!
