  • Non-Scale Victories

Sometimes, it's just enough to get through and not worry about the weight loss so much as the hangin on, day by day.

So what are some of your recent NSV's? What have you overcome? What obstacles have you leapt with a single bound? What evil donuts have you smitten down with your Atkins DANDR by your side?

Do your pants fit better? Did you influence a friend positively? Did someone pay you a generous compliment?

Let's celebrate the small victories in life.

    How are you doing?

well I had a discussion with my mother about whose jacket I put on this cold morning mine or my beanpole dad's ( he was 6' and 168 pounds). For her to even think my jacket would have fit him was a great compliment.

          Re: Non-Scale Victories

I've had quite a few non scale victories lately.. Very little scale victories.. but NSV nonetheless...

first one.. gingerbread house making party... I was going to avoid this altogether, but my sister was in town and she wanted to make one, so I helped her.. I had frosting and icing goo all over my fingers... plopped those marshmallow tiles right on that gingerbread house.. put M&M cobblestones in the gingerbread front yard and so on.. Didn't even lick my fingers, not a single microscopic piece of sugar got into system!! With the possible exception of anything I inhaled through my nose.., I hope that doesn't count LOL..

Second NSV that pops to mind.. Weekend trip to disneyland with my 2 sisters and mother.. I totally rocked the wol there!! Ordered things like a salmon sandwhich, only eating the salmon of course... chicken caesar salads (being careful to look at the dressing nutrition).. and all beef hot dogs when there was nothing else atkinsy in site. I helped carry two of my formerly favorite snacks over to my mother on the other side of the park.. I held a dripping pineapple dole whip in my hand and later on a churro over to her.. didn't even take one little bite!

In addition to eating well at disneyland, I outwalked and had a TON of more energy then both of my skinny sisters. My one sister kept complaining about her feet and legs being really sore, and I was like what is she talking about?? I weigh like 30 pounds more then her, how could her feet be so sore and mine be perfectly fine??!!! That was really cool!!

It felt just soooooooooooooooo good to be so much lighter and healthier while I was there! Usually we would go on daytrips there, and I would only have energy for one ride and then leave.. if there was a long line for a ride, forget it, my feet just wouldn't be able to take it.. This time nothing phased me!! I lasted two whole long days and had energy to spare!! Losing almost 70 pounds makes a heck of a difference, let me tell you!!

Of course I haven't lost any weight this month despite all this, so some scale-scale victories would be nice too.. whooshie fairy a little help here!

            Re: Non-Scale Victories

I have had a few NSV this holiday season. I went over to my Aunt's house today after not being there for over a year. She was totally floored. She kept breaking down and crying because 'I looked so good'.

I can actually wear a watch now. My wrists and hands were so large that I could no longer wear watches without special extended bands or without links added. The other day I walked into the store, grabbed up a watch, and slid it right on. I was so excited I think I almost wet myself lol.

My wedding ring no longer fits. In 2001 when I got married, I wore a size 15 ring. Though I am heavier now than I was then (though not by a whole lot), I now wear about a size 13. My ring is now on a chain that I wear around my neck as a reminder of how much I have gained by losing.

What a great Idea Cleo. That @#$#@$@ scale keeps going up and down the same 4 pounds.

I survived gingerbread houses with my grandkids. I had my granddaughter lick my gooey fingers and did not allow a speck to enter my blood stream.

I have survived all the christmas sweets I have encountered this month. I gave in to a bit of pastry on quiche and a few meatballs but no cookies, cakes, squares or chocolates have passed my lips. Gee I just realized that I've been sugar free for about 4 weeks now. WOOOOOHOOOO.

                  Re: Non-Scale Victories

My most recent NSV happened Tuesday night. I wore my daughter's short puffy ski jacket to the airport to pick her up. She was always about 5-6 sizes smaller than me. Well she freaked out when she saw me. The last time she saw me was in the summer, and I am down at least 2 sizes since then. She kept telling me how proud she was of me, and how fabulous I look. What can be better?

Well....I just flew to Hawaii and back and wasn't totally paranoid about fitting in the airplane seat and being asked to buy a second ticket. I was actually pretty comfortable both ways and felt a huge relief from that. I can't wait until I don't even think about that at all.
