  • Diner phobias on the rise... HELP!

Okay... I am your run of the mill small town girl who practacally lives at the diner when I'm not working or sleeping. Now I am a coffee junkie... and I do enjoy a late night diner snack... now I see that this may cause a problem. I was just wondering if you guys have any tips on what to do. This way I don't mess up my induction come the new year... Looking forward to seeing your replies!

decafe is Atkins acceptable but it does contain carbs and doesn't count in your water needs so drink the water as you will need lots of wwater for fat loss. read the FAQ on why we need water to lose weight. WHy hang out in the diner? start a new hang out at say the gym?

I know this might not help, but I would try and give up the coffee.

coffee in my opinion is just another one of those acceptable drugs that society celebrates!

But I'm realistic, I know the reaction I get when I suggest this to coffee drinkers, it's like I've asked them to urinate in church!

You go that right Dave I would not do either-LOL. I am so glad I came back to read your post again, The first time I read it (6am) I thought it read "when I have asked them to urinate in church"
Also Diners in NJ are a social thing, its about who your with, so sitting and sipping on some water would be fine too. If you need to be eating something to avoid the cakes on the counter they usually have hard boiled eggs!

I think the diner phenomenon is a real Phila/Jersey thing (Philadelphia girl gotta represent here!). It probably means you're a smoker, too, right? Coffee, cigs, and diner food go together like a meal unto themselves!!

You might need to limit yourself on diner intake altogether--that's the prime location of old food habits which are going to take a ton of effort to break, as well as friends who are probably going to sway you away from eating on your diet. Use going there as a treat for weight loss goals while you reintroduce yourself to the grocery store and your own kitchen. When there, stick with breakfast foods like omlettes, and if you use ketchup bring your own low carb version.

                Hi '05!

About the coffee thing, I did without completely and now just have a decaf once in awhile. Also, I found removing myself from difficult situations (favorite places to eat) was the easiest when beginning Atkins! But, after you feel confident with the plan, and as long as they have good selections, then go for it!

I do agree with 2big though, make a new healthy habit involving exercise and make the diner thing a once in a while occurrence...you'll be healthier for it!

ROTFLMBO! Killerbombshell... you are so right! Cigarettes, Coffee, and diner food is what it's all about! Thanks so much guys... maybe I can try to kick the coffee addiction. My friends are very supportive of my ideas... so if I tell them don't let me order coffee.. they will make me order water and a salad. They just want me to be healthy so I actually will go out to the beach with them in the summer (I don't do beaches, sand, sunlight, or bathing suits... lol) Thanks again you guys... Laurenfra and Killerbombshell... you guys kick butt ! I'm not alone with my Diner obsession!

You can change your taste buds for things. I was a Diet Coke drinker and have switched over to water. At first I was sick of it, but after a few months I started to crave it. I love my water! Get chugging! You can do this!

Thanks momtofour! Believe me I've started chugging some water lately... and it does make me feel sick sometimes... but I know that soon... like all habits... it will be as natural as breathing! Thanks again!

Re: Diner phobias on the rise... HELP!

It's cool your friends are supportive.

Personally, I'd skip the coffee (decaf or not) and Splenda the first two weeks. Give your body the best shot at Induction you can, then start experimenting.

I'm sensitive to caffeine, so I had to give it up for a long time (went back after ~25 lbs) and I find that the less I use sugar substitutes, the sweeter other things taste. Don't get me wrong, I love my coffee, but I've never had a cup that was worth missing two days of losing weight. (It can take up to two days to start losing again if you go out of ketosis.)

                        Good luck
