Has anyone experienced bruising on their feet?

We (DH and I) are getting ready to start Induction Monday, but last night when we got home from Wal-mart I noticed brusing on my feet again. I am thinking it is because I've gained the weight I lost when we went off Induction in early October. It does scare me and I would go to the dr, but I want to wait and see if it is just the weight doing it first.

Curious to see if this has happened to anyone else...

(BTW, I was a little nervous about exercising on them while they are like this...what do you think?)

I've got bruises....but that's probably because I keep falling off the sidewalk in front of my house. lol

I've never experienced Atkins-related bruising, and I don't recall hearing about any. Perhaps 2Big could shed some light....

Thanks for responding. I don't think this is Atkins-related...more like weight related...unless it is a medical problem...

Why are you falling off the sidewalk? Sounds a little dangerous and like a sprained ankle waiting to happen...?

Kat, I have trouble walking when I started, so I didn't exercise. I still haven't started a regime yet.

My advice would be to concentrate on the plan and delay exercise.

I know Dr Atkins says exercise is non negotiable, but when we are dealing with a lot of weight to loose, we have to be flexible on that idea.

Besides burning calories can be done in a lot of other ways other than walking.

You could get a Tae Bo DVD, or do water aerobics, or sping clean the house...... Umm my car needs a wash (you get the picture )

Thanks for your post. Low-impact sounds like the way to go then. How far have you come with this so far? (Atkins/low-carb)

One thing...the more weight we need to lose it seems that the faster our metabolism would be to support the current weight and that should be in our favor?

I keep falling off the sidewalk because a) I have horrible balance, b) I don't look where I'm going. The sidewalk is raised only about two inches, but when one combines A and B, the end result is that JoAnne winds up on the ground. Last week I fell twice, both times right in front of Christopher. lol

                You poor thing!

You ever have inner ear problems as a child? Maybe that is affecting your balance?

I get them around the top of my foot. July we started Induction and when we took walks I would get little spotty marks (bruising) and I was wondering if my weight gain was hurting my feet?

I lost some weight and hadn't had it since then. We went off Induction in early October and eveything was fine. When I took my shoes off last night I had some bruising on the top by a toe and where my clog crossed over the arch of my foot. The shoes aren't tight so that is why it concerns me. We are taking Vit C (which a deficiency will cause easy bruising).

So, I was just wondering if this has happened to anyone else.

86 pounds lost so for doing Atkins. 100% of it lost on Atkins. With no exercise. I don't think I can keep it up much longer without exercise. I plan to start walking on the 16th of January.

I had a problem with edema - my feet were really swollen with fluid. Also if I did walking for more than 15 minutes say, I would hurt my left knee. Then the knee would play up for a day or too.

Edema has gone from my feet completely (still some in lower leg) and the knew doesn't hurt (but I'm not exercising).

I may still wait a little before starting exercise because of that knee.

I had a similar problem and it was with my shoes (they were a pair of clarks clogs). While they didn't feel tight, because of the anatomy of the foot (a combination of the way the bones move and the natural swelling that occurs during walking) when I would take a step it was causing the bone to rub awkwardly on the top of my shoe, causing the bruising.

I went to the doctor because my feet hurt all the time, and she said it was because of my weight.

I also switched over to swimming and walking in water (sounds easy, but OMG), from wanting to walk/jog because i am just too heavy right now, it was killing my feet and ankles.

See a doctor, never hurts to be safe than sorry.

I only walk in proper walking shoes. I suggest that you go to an athletic store and get fitted for a good walking shoe; not a running shoe. Tell them if you are walking on dirt or pavement because it affects the type of shoe you need. Good walking shoes will give your feet the support they need and you will feel better walking.

Also if you are worried see your doctor. S/He will be happy to hear you are making changes and getting exercise. Plus they may have some good advice for preventing injury.
