  • I did it!

Yes, I went to the gym today and walked 1.7 miles on the treadmill. Bad thing is I had an awful headache when I came home. I slept from 10am to 4pm then picked my kids up. I even skipped work. I blame the headache on not eating enough.

    Now I know!

Yea! Keep up the walking and it will get easier and faster and longer the more you do.

Make sure not to over-do-it though! Drink your water and try snacking an hour or so before walking, its no fun feeling badly!

      Congratulations!

You should definately not be restricting your cals consciously or unconsciously (IMHO)

What I found can cause headaches in me is dehydration,

but also aspartame. Check out if your headaches ever occur after consuming something with Artificial Sweetner in it - and it may be aspartame doing the job!

          Re: I did it!

Dehydration is a common cause (I always take a water bottle to the gym) but there is also the 'exertion headache'. I read that this is usually caused by not breathing properly during exercise. It is common in weightlifters because they often hold their breath before doing a big lift.

Try to be concsious of breathing and posture when exerising.

Congrats on making 1.7 miles. Knowing how to prevent the headache should make you that much more ready to do it again. I hope you discover the joy of exercise and the good feeling of accomplishment rather than a pain in the head next time.

Congrats Joy, what a fun accomplishment. Pretty soon you'll be walking for miles! The nice thing I've noticed about walking on the treadmill is that you can pause it and go get a drink of water! LOL! Can't do that when you walk the mile from your house...you forget it, you have to wait until you get back! LOL!!
